Topic: UCX - power supply vs bus power

I'm curious, can using firewire bus power instead of the provided power adapter result in different performance with an UCX (less headroom etc..)? IOW, will it work if underpowered?

Will a 13" Macbook (2008) power the UCX? Some places I read it delivers 7W, others say more....What's the minimum for the UCX?

So, the UCX seemed to work fine when bus powered with my Macbook, +48V activated on both 1/2,  although it obviously drains the battery like a mother.

From what I can figure from this internet thingy the Macbook is supposed to provide 7 or 8 watts, which is quite a bitt less than the UCX is rated for. Any danger in doing this for the UCX? The firewire port on the Mac has, as it says: "self-resetting overcurrent and fault protection circuits"...
