Topic: question about UCX output 7-8

I was curious if there is any difference in quality of the signal of output 7/8?  Specifically in terms of feeding outboard gear?

If I were to use the UCX in a 5.1 setting, using all of balanced outputs on the rear panel, would feeding outboard gear with 7/8 show any noticeable difference from feeding the gear from the outputs 1-6?

My plan would be just grab a Y cable, come out of that dual mono, and, bam, sonic enjoyment.

Would very much appreciate any info/explanations in this regard.

Thanks.

Hmm, I think you should use the backports if you want exactly the same quality then with the other outs.

Because on the front there is of course the headphone preamp which will give a different feel to it. It is much hotter and may introduce a little, little more noise.

The rear ins and outs for 7/8 are the same output to my understanding.

Cheers.

No. From the manual:

Channels 7/8 of the Fireface are available on the front via one 1/4" unbalanced TRS jack (stereo output). These channels use the same converters as the other line outputs, therefore offer the same technical specifications.

These outputs are special low impedance types, ready to be used with headphones. They can also be used as high-quality - yet unbalanced - line outputs. To optimize this stereo output for monitoring purposes, outputs 7/8 have their own 3-stage hardware-based reference level circuitry, independent form the setting of channels 1 to 6, providing perfect pre-adjustment for the connected monitor speakers. The main volume control is then performed via TotalMix, either at the computer or directly at the unit (rotary encoder, PH).

Or in short: RTM does help!
