Topic: FF UC: Can hardware knob reach below -60dB ?

Hello,

I would like the main hardware rotary knob in UC go below -58dB (yes, even -58 is loud when it's late evening here and I want to check my mixes at very low volume).

Of course I can use a volume plugin or the main fader in my DAW but I wonder if there's some setting that can be tweaked to allow the knob go down to, let's say, -80dB.

Thanks,

If you don't mind the relatively strong digital attenuation, you can always pull down the fader in the software playback of the mixer some, thus extending the range of the control downwards. But I'd recommend an analog attenuator, active or passive...

Where's your output level at usually? What reference level is the output set at? If possible, lower it.

Re: FF UC: Can hardware knob reach below -60dB ?

Fireface displayed levels are usually around -20dB when recording / mixing, -28dB when mastering.

Less than -60 is needed when checking if there are "out of mix" tracks at very low level.

I mix on headphones usually (I know speakers are recommended, but in the night it's simply the only choice).

Looks to me like you are not aware of the three output levels for the headphone output, set on the Gain tab of the settings dialog. With -10 dBV active it is impossible for -58 dB to be too loud, no matter which headphone you use.

Re: FF UC: Can hardware knob reach below -60dB ?

Actually, I knew but I didn't think about it; that's a good suggestion, because I can go around -14dB lower and I can simply go to -6 dB or so when I want to get the same loudness I had before with -20dB.
