Topic: UCX headphone 1-4 question

How do I use headphones with the 6 line outs?  In Total Mix in the Control Room there are 4 phone mixes available, each going to a pair of mono outs.  That seems strange since headphones are normally stereo and only 6 outs are built in the UCX.  That aside, in order to get a stereo headphone mix what do I do?  Use 2 outs from the UCX into my headphones?

Re: UCX headphone 1-4 question

These outputs are not Phones level, they are line level. You need to connect a headphone amp to these outputs in order to amplify them for use with headphones.

Re: UCX headphone 1-4 question

I know that they are line level.  I wonder why RME would make them assignable for phones though if they weren't intended for that use.  It seems like the manual would tell me to run them through a headphone amp if that were necessary.  But it doesn't say that and that is misleading, isn't it?

Re: UCX headphone 1-4 question

Any output can be set up as a Phones mix, including ADAT and SPDIF channels. These also need a D/A converter and possibly a headphone amp. It's not misleading at all, just flexible.
