Topic: Usb Mic Talkback trough RME Fireface UC

Hi to all,
Is there a way to use a USB cheap microphone with RME totalmix and route the audio through the Headphone out or to another Line Out?
I want a simple device to use, like the Blue Snowball (http://bluemic.com/snowball/), so I could use it for Podcast other than a Talkback Mic!
Any advice would be really appreciated,
Thanks,
Mauro.

There is no way to plug in a USB mic to an RME FFUC - it is not a computer. For USB, it can only work as a device, not a host.  You cannot connect a SnowBall directly to a Fireface.

If you need to have a USB mic for something else, I believe there are USB mics available that also have a normal analog XLR out as well, and this can be connected to the UC in the normal manner.  Have a look around.

Of course, if you are wanting USB to connect to something like an iPad, then the BabyFace or the UCX can now work in USB audio Class Compliant mode, to input audio from a normal mic into such a device via its USB connection facility.

A couple of possibilities for you ...

I don't want to connect the snowball to the UC, I want to route the audio from the Snowball trough USB to a virtual input of the Totalmix, can I do this in someway?

Thanks for the reply, I'll consider your alternative but I need a really good table mic to do this, could you recommend some to me?
Thanks,
Mauro.

Re: Usb Mic Talkback trough RME Fireface UC

It appears that you would need a program like an recording or editing program running on the host computer that allows you to select a the USB mic stream as the input, and direct the monitor output to one of the playback returns on the RME ASIO (multiclient) driver so it will then appear in the 'second row' of TotalMix.

Not aware of any simple programs (like Audacity or ocenaudio) that might allow you to have such different input and output capabilities ... others may know.

Exactly what I mean, thanks man big_smile
Now I can use a Snowball mic to record podcast and use it for Talkback too!
