Fireface 800 here - since 2006. 7 years, still working just like the first day.

I bought my FF800 in 2006 and sold it in perfect working order (to upgrade to UFX) in 2011.  I would be surprised if any interface from any company died after just a few years.  The bigger issue is whether the company will continue to support the interface with upgraded drivers (e.g., to support new operating systems) after a few years.  In the case of RME, the answer is yes.
