Topic: ADI 648 - Older model - What to look out for

Hello RME

I have got my hands on a ADI 648, that is not your latest model. The colour of the front panel is not Blue, but more Gray ...
and the MIDI selection keys on the front is not present.

I have a couple of questions regarding this.

1. Can I upgrade the unit with regards to Firmware, and if so ... where can I get access to the update files ?

From your current manual ...

[i]At the time of writing this manual, the unit is shipped with firmware 2.5. This firmware is not
compatible to older units, which do not have the REMOTE key. The firmware version is displayed
after power on by the AUDIO LEDs for about one second.[/

2. Does your current user manual apply to this older version also ?
3. Can I use your current MIDI remote software to control the unit ?

1. Not possible.
2. No. Therefore we provide the older manual as download too.
3. Yes. As mentioned in said manual.

Thanks MC

As far as I can tell, the firmware on this unit is 1.2
Is it possible or not to upgrade to 1.8 ?

The oldest manual I can find on your site states that

"At the time of writing this manual, the unit is shipped with firmware 1.8. The firmware version is
displayed by the AUDIO LEDs, when the MADI INPUT and 96K FRAME keys are pressed and
held simultaneously."

Re: ADI 648 - Older model - What to look out for

Well, 1.2 is the very first version (December 2002), and MIDI remote isn't even implemented. The latest version that is compatible to the PCB inside is 1.83 (June 2004). To update you have to order the EPROM chip via your local distributor and exchange it (no soldering).
