Topic: Madi FX vs UFX - processing power

Hi,

When counting the number of compressors or EQ's which can be operated at the same time on my UFX, I get to 14 stereo busses @ 48kHz (EQ + Filter, or compressor + auto gain, or a combination of that).

All I can find on the internet is that the 'Hammerfall DSP power core chip' of the Madi FX is an improved version of the UFX chip, but I can't get any more info on the added processing power.

How many effect (EQ, compressor) busses can I expect to run with the Madi FX? Could someone please run a test on their system?

TIA,
Syah.

Re: Madi FX vs UFX - processing power

I would use only the first MADI I/O (64 channels), leaving channels 65-192 unused. I don't know if that would leave more power to the effects, but I would also like to know if that has impact on the number of eq's/compressors I can use.

Your count is not correct. 46 EQs with 32 LC while Reverb and Echo are activated, or 60 EQs and 34 LC without is what I have on record here. The MADI card is about 70% up.

Yes Matthias, my count was incorrect.

I don't know why, but switching from 48kHz to 96kHz and back to 48kHz resulted in the count you stated above (even a few more LowCut filters!). Nice smile

Thanks for pointing this out. Good to know that adding a Madi FX to my UFX will give me over 2 and a half times the effects power I have right now.

But first I need to get me a second hand ADI-648 (mkI or mkII). Anyone willing to sell me one?
