Topic: Burl BMB2/MADI FX sync problems

I am trying to interface the Burl BMB2 (Madi Option) with the MADI FX. I use the Burl as the master clock, but only 44.1 and 96k work    and the sync status is displayed successfully. All other rates default to the internal clock. Drivers and firmware for the MadiFX are up to date.

Re: Burl BMB2/MADI FX sync problems

Can you confirm this with other MADI signal sources?

When you say "other rates default to the internal clock", does that mean the MADI input switches from Sync no "No Lock"?

Re: Burl BMB2/MADI FX sync problems

Hi,

unfortunately no other MADI sources are available at the moment.

Yes, It goes to 'no lock'

thank you

Re: Burl BMB2/MADI FX sync problems

If it's "No Lock", then the change is taking place at the source (BMB2), and the MADI FX no longer gets a valid signal... Where do you switch the sample rate?

Re: Burl BMB2/MADI FX sync problems

yes I am switching on the BMB2. For example:
I turn on the BMB2, It defaults to 96, I get a nice synch, but then I switch from the BMB2 to other rates and loose the sync. Am I not supposed to do it like that?

The Clock source on the RME is always set to MADI1

Re: Burl BMB2/MADI FX sync problems

You should ask Burl if your unit already supports such sample rates via the MADI output.

Re: Burl BMB2/MADI FX sync problems

I know for a fact that the issue is on Burl's side.
I almost took the plunge on buying a mothership myself but after talking to Will from Burl Audio he said they are working on making all sample rates work via MADI with the RME MADI FX specifically.
As you said, only 44.1 and 96k currently work.  Burl said 'they are working on it'.  Wasn't enough to convince me of a sale however.
Best of luck.

Re: Burl BMB2/MADI FX sync problems

thanks indeed!

A question to RME. If Burl state that they are compatible with the MADI HDSPe how different (without getting too technical) would the implementation be  for the MadiFX? I thought the actual messaging would be the same and that any MADI device can talk to another.
Just trying to get a better understanding of the situation, thanks

Where exactly do they say so, specifically with regard to sample rates besides 44 and 96?

Re: Burl BMB2/MADI FX sync problems

I have a mothership/bmb2, use it with a MADI HDSPe card, and have no sync problems.  It's really awesome.
I'd consider selling the FX and getting an HDSPe card. Why fight it. Just use what works.

Re: Burl BMB2/MADI FX sync problems

Hi Stype.

Have you tried this?

From another thread:

"I just had a customer call with a similar issue. Channels were normal in the TotalMix FX window, but Sequoia's ASIO panel only showed 32 I/O. We fixed it by toggling (on/off) the "32 channel limit" check box in the HDSPe Settings application."

and the answer:

"Thanks for this hint! That is indeed the solution for our problem!
By the way, I'm not sure if its just a side effect or actually on purpose, but suddenly my burl b80 syncs perfectly with 48kHz an 88.1kHz now! That would be great news. Can someone else confirm this?"

here's the thread: http://www.rme-audio.de/forum/viewtopic.php?id=18292

So does it work with the fx? I would like to hear yes since mothership+madi fx seems like the ultimate combo...

Thanks to keep us updated big_smile

Re: Burl BMB2/MADI FX sync problems

Hey there!

I have my Rme Hdspe Madi Fx + Burl gear (Mothership and Bomber b2) and works supreme!
Perfect combination at any sample rate, without sync. problems. I installed last driver!

So, my experience is really positive about... I love that sound!

Thanks
