Topic: Signals being clipped at -6dB when using TotalMix Loopback mode

Hey all. Using a Digiface with TotalMix, recording into Sound Forge. Input signal hits Apogee Rosetta 800, Lightpipe to Digiface. Recording a mono signal routing TM input channel 1 and the talkback signal for slating. Signals from the talkback mic are normal, but signals from channel 1 are hard clipped at -6dB, causing some distortion on hotter signals. Having always had a console for monitoring until recently, I'm new to using TotalMix as a front end, so I'm lost on this one. Any ideas?

I don't understand this loopback setup. A screenshot of TM might help.

Tried that. No attachment icon, and pasting or dragging the bitmap into the text field didn't work. Sorry to be such a pain, but there must be a way to get this 2 meg file to you.

The problem went away when I panned the input channel to the left. The setup is one mono mic input and the talkback input routed via loopback to hardware output 1. With the mic channel panned center, the signal to the DAW is brickwalled at -6dB. With the mic channel panned left, i.e. all the signal going to the actual output being recorded, no problems. I'm sure there's some logic here, but it escapes me.
