Topic: Babyface noise (shhhh) on AN1 and AN2

Hello i just noticed my AN1 channel is noisy ... i belived it was my mic but now i have nothing connected to the AN1 input and if i activate that channel i start hearing a noise like shhhhhhhh if the gain is more than 27 .

Here it is a soundclip with the gain at 60 (max) .If i lower the gain the noise is more quite but i can still hear it and it is annoying and it's been recorded ..

On the guitar channel AN2 i have this noise with the gain at 42 and the guitar connected. I tried with 3 different brand new expansive guitars and the noise is there.

May be a defective unit?

The first clip has noise at less than -60 dBFS. If the gain was set to 60 dB that means you have 120 dB dynamic range. That would be fully ok.

what abou the second?

if i raise the gain more than 12 this annoying noise is recorded and if i raise the volume of the recorded track it's even more audible

What level do you see (numbers on top of the channel strip) at 0 dB and 60 dB gain?

hello, thanks for the answer

ANALOG1

- without any condenser mic connected i read at 0db gain --> from -97.5 to -100
- without any condenser mic connected i read at 60db gain --> from -68 to -60

- with a condenser mic connected i read at 0db gain --> from -90 to -97
- with a condenser mic connected i read at 60db gain --> from -37 to -47

The mic is a brand new Oktava MK319

ANALOG2

- without any guitar connected and Inst off i read at 0db gain --> from -97.5 to -100
- without any guitar connected and Inst off i read at 60db gain --> from -55 to -60

- with any guitar connected and Inst on i read at 9db gain (i can't set 0) --> from -89 to -95
  turning all the way down the guitar volume does affect about -3 db.
- with any guitar connected and Inst on i read at 60db gain --> from -40 to -45
  turning all the way down the guitar volume does affect about -5db.

I tried with 3 different guitars all brand new and expansive
1) Fender stratocaster American Standar (single coils)
2) ESP Horizon Fr (EMG's active pickups)
3) Acoustic Takamine EF261SAN

Always the same result (about)
Do you think my babyface is ok?
Thank you
kind regards
Giò
