Topic: Needing help with workflow via AES

Firstly some details - Protools user, 2012 MacBook Pro, UFX interface.

I need some help to fill in some working gaps I have with Totalmix.  I come from a totally ITB background and i'm still learning my way with OTB routing.

In the last couple of days i've set up a POD HD Pro in an AES loop with the UFX.  I plan to use the POD as a dedicated FX processor - keeping the signal completely digital (because the option is there to do so).  So far so good - the PODs FX sound wonderful and my ears are very happy, and signal is registering on all the right level meters in Totalmix.


That said, i've not worked out how to route post-POD AES signal back into Protools.  I've worked out how to separate my main mix from the channel/group I want sent to the POD, but i'm coming up empty when trying to route post-POD AES signal back to a session.  Within the PT i/o setup window there is no AES input mapping, and routing through other channels doesn't seem to be working.


Any tips/suggestions to get me moving forward?

Sorted.  Within the PT i/o setup window the AES input is channel 13/14.  The input breakdown classifies it as an optical input, but this is obviously just a labelling faux pas.

Did you check for an updated UFX driver?

I'll look now.  I updated the UFX when I first bought it six months ago, but it's been working flawlessly so no incentive to look for an improvement.

OK, i'm updated to firmware v353 and driver v1.86, and Totalmix has got a new icon and a GUI refresh.


The labelling within PT's i/o setup still needs addressing.  Now I know ch13/14 is AES it's not an issue for me, but it wouldn't hurt to have the labels corrected within the PT i/o GUI in future updates.

Current driver is 1.89. The labels in PT's setup are not relevant for us. The only ones that count are those in the Audio MIDI Setup, and AFAIK they are correct.
