Topic: MadiFace XT questions

Hi everyone. I am not very familiar with this and forums in general so I am not sure this is the correct place to post those questions. Please excuse me if I am wrong here.

What I would like to know: are the preamps and converters in the MadiFace XT the same as in the UFX ?
How would I connect (what cables / additional card etc.) the MadiFace XT to a PC using PCIE
And how would I connect it to my existing UFX ?

Thanks for your help and please do not hesitate to direct me to the correct forum if this is not the right place

Regards,
Claude

No, a little bit less quality but nevertheless, the quality is still RME (Gain in  3dB steps, less gain (60dB)

I recommend to watch here at youtube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IEusgRsktKw (1:40 - 1:50)
Even better: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GYQGk8tNFu4   (2:05-2:40)

As the name "MADIface" tells us this Audio Interface is mainly for using it with MADI. UFX doesn't support Madi.
You only can connect 4 "hardware channels" from MADIface XT OUT  to UFX IN:
MADIface XT Analog OUT 1 & 2 to any Analog IN of UFX
MADIface XT AES OUT to AES IN of UFX

Maybe you need to ask you "why into UFX?" - in a next audio interface?

Hope that helps for the moment. Otherwise tell me more about your plans.
All the best for the coming 2014

Re: MadiFace XT questions

Hi Beat, thanks for the response. Actually my plan is based on the desire to have top quality portable  stereo capability to make 2 channel takes on the road but with the capability to have the 2 channel device work in tandem with additionnal devices in the home studio.

So I had been thinking, MadiFace XT for the road; join to FIreFace when in studio and eventually sell UFX and get something like Mictasy or OctaMix XTC

Re: MadiFace XT questions

Hello again
So why not using RME UCX? I believe it would be the cheaper and in the mean time better solution for you and your planed tasks.
http://www.rme-audio.de/products_fireface_ucx.php
If you still not have enough mic-channels "on the road" with the UCX you could expand with QuadmicII or even better with an Octamic XT.
You can connect the Octamic XT with UCX or/and UFX via ADAT (up to 8 channels).

BTW: UCX has the same Microphon-Amplifiers than UFX as far as I know and a lot of connecting possibilities - similar to the UFX.
Once more the MADIface is mainly built for handling the MADI-format and this 3 times simultaneously...(which leads to a handling of 192 channels)
So if you not are planing to use MADI in future (transmitting a lot of channels over one single strip 100m up to 2km) I would use one of the upper
solutions.
