Topic: Madiface XT - can't get signals into DAW + Mail & Safari crashes

Hi guys,

I bought recently a Madiface XT which I am using or want to use with my iMac either using one of the following DAW: Logic X, Pro Tools 11.1.2 or via bootcamp Sequoia 12.

So far the madiface xt works as a standalone unit and I can even playback music and control it via the software supplied by RME however I can not get any signals into one of the above mentioned DAW. (Pr Tools 11.1.2 for example does not start up at all).

Also Mail (see below a part of the crash report) & Safari crashes etc.

I did not had any issues with my iMac OS X 10.9.1 prior to the installation of the RME drivers, soft- and hardware.

What is it that I do wrong?

I never had these kind problems with my previous owned RME interfaces such as, Hammerfall 9652 + 16 IO ADI8, Fireface UFX, Madiface HDSPe.

That is a known bug in Mac OS X. Some system functions do not work correctly due to the large number of channels that the XT has (in this case the Mail's system sounds).

PT please seach the forum. If nothing helps you could use USB 2 mode fixed at the unit. Less channels from/to DAW, but still access to all channels via TotalMix.

First of all thanks for the very quick reply however:

    What worries me the most at the moment is that I can not get any signal into a DAW, I used Logic, PT (chrashed) under OSX but I also tried under Windows 7 - Sequioa 12 and here I have the same isssue. I plug in a bass guitar on channel 1 and have signal within totalmix however if I arm channel/track 1 within one of the above mentioned DAW (without PT11) then I do not get any signal.

      How can I set the Madiface XT to a fixed USB2, (I do not mind to have only 32channels at 96kHz, if that would fix the issue with PT11)?

      PT 11 no longer has issues with high channel count, this issue was fixed (also in 10.3.7).
      I have no immediate explanation for the behaviour in Sequoia, though. have you tried MADI signals?

      USB 2 mode can be set in the unit's menu - or simply use a USB 2 cable...

      Seems that there is something else is wrong in this case

      Channel 1 of the XT is not channel 1 in the DAW - those are the MADI channels. Analog is at the end.

      Pro Tools is starting up and I get signals into the DAW.
      The problem (Pro Tools not starting up) got solved after running a little program called PT prefs V1.2 which cleans all the preferences etc.

      Mathias, Do you mean to say that the Madiface XT will not work with Mac OSX 10.9.x?

      Carefully. Gaston 69 says he cannot get audio signals into a DAW, and now has crashes in PT, Mail & Safari...

      Were you saying that not able to get signals into a DAW is a bug in OSX, or Mail/Safari/PT crashing is a bug in OSX?

      No you did not read this thread. 3 posts back gaston 69 states: 'Pro Tools is starting up and I get signals into the DAW. '

      Nobody in this thread said or meant that 'the Madiface XT will not work with Mac OSX 10.9.x'.
