i have a question concerning the latency of a multiface 1 in comparison to a new babyface or a fireface:

i have a multiface 1 connected via an expresscard and a sonnet thunderbolt chassis to my macbook pro. in my (kinda big) mainstage concert the lowest possible buffersize i can work with without getting crackles is 256 samples.
would i be able to lower the buffersize with a new fireface or babyface? i'm curious about this because i feel like i have the multiface for centuries (and it still works like a charm!!!) and don't know if the latest technology would give me some benefits...or is the expresscard solution still "state of the art" in terms of cpu consumption, buffer size and so on...?...
