Topic: RME HDSPe AES-32 + RME ADI-8 DS MK3 connection problem!

Hi there!

I´ve been fighting couple of days with this new set i own. For some reason i can not get any information running through these two units along with AES I/O cable (tascam pin-out)!

Clock synchronize perfectly by using BNC-cables. Even the a/d state meters blink when inputting line-signal... but no signal goes forward through aes/ebu cable and no signal comes back from the sound card!

Have i missed something crucial???

RME HDSPe AES-32 card works perfectly separately. Sends information to DAW +Hammerfall and I'm able to even listen something using separate audio unit via digital cable!

You are sure you connected to the correct DSUB port on the ADI unit?

Can you check the AES cable by connecting both ends to the HDSPe AES card (loopback configuration)? In this connection configuration, you should see sync for all AES channels in the HDSPe Settings application.

Hi Jeff, and thank you for the fast reply!

The cable was connected to the right DSUB port.

I ran this loopback configuration by connecting cable to HDSPe AES-32 card as a loop! Result, no AES connections on any channel (sync - no lock). I double-checked by using another Tascam cable. Same result!

Re: RME HDSPe AES-32 + RME ADI-8 DS MK3 connection problem!

The card should be set to internal clock or for this test. You should see solid "sync" reported.

If it's the same with these settings, and the card works otherwise, the cable must be wired wrong (or not an AES/EBU cable at all).

"Tascam pinout" can refer to an AES/EBU connection, an analog cable connection, or a TDIF cable connection.

Loopback test is only possible when the cable splits into XLRs.

Connection from main card DSUB AES 1-4 to daughter card DSUB AES 5-8 should work for a sync test, no? Out 1-8 connects to In 9-16, and vice versa.

Re: RME HDSPe AES-32 + RME ADI-8 DS MK3 connection problem!

Indeed that should work. I'm already weekend screwed...

On the other hand I have seen Yamaha wired cables work in such a test, because the AES card is quite sensitive, and receives its own signal (100% same clock), so it showed Sync on all ins.

I bought today a new  AES/EBU cable and now the gear is running smoothly and all AES-channels are synced!  Thank you for the tips!
