Topic: Babyface Latency - 1024
Hi all,
I use this setup (please find details below) for orchestra scores using Garritan.
I know that such plug-ins are quite CPU-intensive and all that but I thought that with such good specs, it should be a breeze for the computer. Here they are:
Software - SONAR 8.0.2
VST used - two instances of GPO4 (and sometimes 1 vocal track)
Hard drive - 40 GB interl 2.5'' SATA (Solid State)
RAM - 6GB (3x2GB) DDR3 Corsair XM53 DDR3 PC1280
Video Card - 1GB Gainward GF GT240 PCI-express video
CPU - Intel I7 920 Nehalem 2,66GHz - socket 13 Gigabyte GA-X58a UD3R S1366/PCI-E2/DDR3
(I hope this info suffices - I know zilch about hardware)
The symptoms if I use less latency (<= 256) is clicks and dropouts and the BF shows transfer errors in the Buffer Latency section. I can work with 512 but I see a noticeable increase in CPU-usage (which I know is normal the less buffer-size one uses) so I go for a safer 1024.
Thing is, shouldn't I with this kind of PC be able to use much lower latency, just as BF manual says?
Any ideas as to what the problem might be would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks,
Sam
