Topic: A possibly easy question about Babyface's Loopback.

Hi all,

I've been through both the manual and this board's Search function but I can't seem to wrap my head around the Loopback function. Specifically it seems strange that when I press it, nothing visibly changes in the Mixer.

I get the general theory, as per p59 in the manual: it takes the hardware out on the selected channel (i.e. PH3/4 or AN 1/2) and sends it back to the inputs. What I don't get is how you select *which* inputs that output loops back to. It would appear it defaults to AN1/2.

At this point the only use I have for it is to send the Main mix back to an input that's *NOT* AN1/2 (because I use those to record with) so I can have full-volume signal going to Digicheck all the time so I can monitor the Main mix.

I'm sure it's something very simple - otherwise I'm getting pretty comfortable with the Babyface after having it a couple of months. If anyone could shed some light on this, it would be much appreciated.

all the best,
Matthew

ps. If it matters, I'm running it on a Mac running 10.6.7. Latest versions of everything Babyface-related.

Re: A possibly easy question about Babyface's Loopback.

There is nothing shown in the mixer input because the signal is sent to the RECORDING software, not back to the mixer.

And always to the software record channel that matches the current output. 1 to 1, 9 to 9 etc.

Re: A possibly easy question about Babyface's Loopback.

Much thanks for that clarification, MC!

My problem is that I was using the Control Room Loopback and expecting to be able to route that wherever. Now I see that in my case it's the Hardware Output Loopback that I need to worry about.

It will still be nice to have a one-button Mac solution to monitor the outs in Digicheck, but until then it's good to know it's still possible to do a workaround.
