Haven't tried, but I see no reason for this not to work....

Thanks but is there any way to really find out? One should not have to buy 3 of them just on a speculation.
Such a setup is destined to fail. There is no guarantee all units process the remote info identically, nor that the remote beam hits all units always the same way. In a real-world multichannel system (surround) you will not have identical volume settings on all units, a deviation in volume will sneak in unnoticed.
