Topic: I need Help. Fireface 400 Crashing PC.

Hi
I just built a new pc and I'm getting Whea_unctrollable_error (blue screen of death)
It works fine for a while and suddenly the pc will freeze and crash.
I'm not having this problem when the RME is not plugged in or turned off
I've tried another new pciE card and it's the same problem again.
I've tried using it with external power no luck.
Help appreciated
Thank U

my setup is:
Motherboard:msi gaming plus max x470
cpu:AMD Ryzen 5 3500x
Ram:32gb dd4 3000mhz
GPU: gtx 1050ti
700w power supply

Which version of Windows 10 ? 1903, 1909, 2004, 20H2 ?
Did you use the lagacy firewire driver for windows 10 ?

Re: I need Help. Fireface 400 Crashing PC.

Was this a new or an upgrade installation ?
Sometimes there can be side effects with upgrade installations.
You could make a backup (diskimage, using Macrium Reflect, Acronis you can't trust) of your current installation and try
a) an upgrade installation to Win10 20H2 to see whether the upgrade to the latest release fixes the issues
you will/might still require the Firewire legacy driver
b) next  you should try a fresh install of Win10 20H2
you will/might still require the Firewire legacy driver

An USB boot stick you can create with the Microsoft Media Creation tool.
If this doesn't give better results, you can restore this disk image using Macrium Reflect.

Hi, I  just built the pc it's all new.
I will try installing windows 20H2
I just tried changing the pciE slot and the FW cable, now testing to see if it crashes.
if it still doesn't work next step is tying a fresh install of windows 20H2.

Running on firewire power or external adapter? If firewire, try an adapter.

tried using the power adapter, same problem.
I downloaded an app called Whocrashed that can read dmp files.
it's saying that the fireface_x64 driver crashed.
since there are no other windows 10 drivers for fireface should I install another version of windows 10?
