Topic: FF800 Driver doesn't load in Big Sur

Hello all,

I have updated my intel iMac from Mojave to Big Sur, downloaded the 3.40 driver from RME's web site and it simply won't load no matter what. In System preferences and under "Security and Privacy" I have clicked on "allow" RME and after a reboot the driver just won't load (although the Fireface settings icon is present in the Apps folder).

Next thing I tried is to boot into Internet Recovery Mode (which is the only recovery mode I was able to boot into no matter what key combo I press) and unfortunately there isn't any option to "allow user management of kernel extensions".

Next thing I tried is to run this command in a Terminal window:

sudo spctl --master-disable

and the only thing that happened is that the "anywhere" option appeared in the "Security and Privacy" window but other than that it had no effect on loading the Fireface 800 driver.

Can you please help? This is so frustrating.

Thanks.

Re: FF800 Driver doesn't load in Big Sur

This recovery-mode boot instruction is for M1 macs only.
Yours is an intel.
May you uninstall everything RME named by deleting those files and reinstall the 3.40 pkg driver.

M1-Sonoma, Madiface Pro, Digiface USB, Babyface silver and blue

You probably will need to use the workaround of resetting the kext consent list, see: https://forum.rme-audio.de/viewtopic.ph … 82#p171782

I did that already and it didn't work.

I did that, too. The command "kmutil" is not being recognized in the bash shell 3.2

It seems that some kernel extensions are in the user's library and these don't get loaded automatically unless they are explicitly allowed to do so. Here's a screenshot of mine:

I've also entered the following command in a Terminal window:

sudo kmutil load -p /Library/Extensions/FirefaceAudioDriver.kext

and that didn't work either.

Well, I managed to make it work. I downloaded the Samsung Portable SSD for Big Sur from Samsung site and installed it. I got a message that kernel extensions were updated and after a reboot the the Samsung Portable T5 doesn't load properly but the Fireface 800 does, lol.
