Topic: Thinking of joining the RME wave!

Heya guys, new to the forums!

I used to produce and had a quite successful youtube channel a couple of years ago, but due to circumstances I had to get rid of all my music gear and I'm now starting over.

I'm getting the Neumann 150's with a SUB and correction kit and I have been looking ALOT regarding what Audio Interface to buy.

II was mostly drawn to Apollo Twin in the beginning (Impecible marketing) but to be honest It seems to be alittle overhyped, and I rather go for quality than hype, I rarely see RME marketing videos, or many "Youtube producers" who use em, but If you look (Gearspace and other forums) you quickly find that EVERYONE speaks highly about RME. Probably best drivers, great connectivity, high-end converters, amazing support and the list goes on and on.

I need a Audio Interface for now (in the future i might go for a proper AD / DA converter)
And I want as good converters as I can get, at least 2 monitor outputs (for main monitors and mixcubes)
and I want It to translate to other devices as good as possible

My budget is like 1400 - 1900$

I have mainly been looking at the RME Fireface UCX II with a controller.
I was wondering how (Convertion wise) it holds up against Apollo Twin X Quad

I am more drawn towards RME but I'm unsure (The great marketing from UA makes me uncertain)

EDIT:
I also read something about some warehouse burning down and some cheaper converter had to be used? I have no Idea for what products this applies or if the information is wrong completely, some light on this issue would be great aswell!

My thoughts are that I looked briefly at UAD (even got a laptop with tb3 for this specific purpose), but I didnt like the processing in the interface as noone I tried it on could tell if it was an uad plugon or "just" a simple Slate/waves/whatever plugin.
I want to be able to mix hardware, and I want reliability, so I choose RME again, and I will continue to do so i think.

The fire was in the AKM factory, meaning mostly that manufacturers had to switch out the AKM converters, but I dont think the converters used instead are in any way cheaper. Some different functionality maybe, but nothing I would worry abour with RME.

Hi xxchulo,

Welcome to the RME user forum.

With this budget, you could easily get an UCX II. If you want a bit more, then have a look at the UFX II.
At any time later, you can also integrate an ADI-2 Pro FS to the setup.

I wouldn't worry about different types of converters. It's not the AD or DA converter alone that makes the sound or a good product.

Ultimately, it is the sum of individual components, the coordination of the components, the overall design that makes an excellent product. A victory in Formula 1 can only be achieved if everything is perfectly tuned to each other.

A new variant of the ADI-2 Pro has just been released, the ADI 2/4 Pro FS, which has ESS (not AK) transducer chips built in.
The technical data of the new product are (also) excellent. KaiS performed a lot of blind test between ADI-2 Pro and ADI-2/4 Pro and couldn't detect any audible difference. See also this post and references to other postings: https://forum.rme-audio.de/viewtopic.ph … 76#p195376

RME stands for high quality transparent AD and DA conversion. No mojo, voodoo or house sound. Quality, excellent drivers and well-thought-out features.

Just look what fits your budget and gives you enough room for the future. You don't buy an RME device only for 3–5 years. FF400 and FF800 are now much longer on the market (around 20y) and there is still driver support for them.
