Topic: RME ADI-2 Pro FS R Black Edition setup with Audient ID22

Hey guys, just going to pull the trigger with the RME ADI-2 Pro FS R Black Edition and i would like to setup it with my Audient ID22

The goal is to be able to record my hardware machines to Audient / Daw Ableton live,  then listen the audio by the RME Adi2 interface.
So ,the Neumanns kh 120 monitors to RME ADI outs but not sure how to connect the Audient/ RME here with this configuration

Does anybody have a similar setup that can give a help ?

Peace out

Manny thanks for the help guys
Unfortunatly it didnt arrive yet. Hope it next week

Re: RME ADI-2 Pro FS R Black Edition setup with Audient ID22

I replied to your other thread and aren't really sure why you'd want the ADI-2 Pro.  Audient gear is really good... I've got several of their mic pres in our studio facility.  Any differences in D/A conversion between the two is likely to be un-noticeable.

Manny thanks for your answer !

Well , mainly because i thought that it would give me much better listening from my setup.
Also im planning to do some mastering in the future

Re: RME ADI-2 Pro FS R Black Edition setup with Audient ID22

Just received the Rme Adi 2 pro black and im delightfull with it, superb sound quality !!

Now have some hardware and wanna print to Ableton Live.
My current setup is the Adi 2 pro + Audient ID22 and are connected by toshlik.

Audient is slaved to ADI and hardware comes in Audient 1/2 INS but cannot rec it in Ableton, what am i missing here ?

Does anyone has same hardware that can give a help please ?

Re: RME ADI-2 Pro FS R Black Edition setup with Audient ID22

How are you feeding Ableton? I assume you're NOT using the USB on the Audient, but USB on the ADI2?  This would be setup (on a Mac) in Audio/MIDI setup. You'd pass the SPDIF from the Audient through ADI2 using USB as your record option. Have you setup the ADI2 as multi-channel or simply stereo?

Ups, i am. It was my setup before Adi arrived.
Ok, so i should disconnect usb Audient to Mac ?

Just finish rebuild other studio and now starting to connect everything.

Took a look at your blog and still have many questions eheh

Ok Ramses , so based on your answer i must connect the RME to the Audient by toshlink.
One thing i dont undertand is RME clock is supposed to be better , so why not connect the Audient in slave mode ?
Other thing i dont understand and someone here mencioned , should i have usb from both interfaces connected to my computer ?
I have hardware synths i usually print in Ableton live, witch interface ins should i use to rec ?

Thanks for your patience

Re: RME ADI-2 Pro FS R Black Edition setup with Audient ID22

You can use the ADI-2 Pro as clock master, but from operational perspective it is better, that the recording interface is the clock master, the DAW/audio application sets the sample rate through the ASIO driver and the other devices follow the clock of the master automatically.

Otherwise, if you work with different sample rates, you would have to set the sample rate in the DAW/application AND on the ADI-2 Pro. These are two manual steps.

Furthermore:
- Steadyclock FS make RME devices generally to an excellent clock slave, see RME videos about SteadyClock FS
takes out any jitter from a digital connection to a high degree, with SteadyClock FS even more
- ADI-2 Pro FS has special design, even as a clock slave the final D/A conversion is being performed with the internal FS clock
So the AD and DA conversion of the ADI-2 Pro FS is always in highest quality using its internal FS clock

Yes sure, I do it the same way.

I have two ADI-2 Pro FS R BE connected to an UFX III.
One for the recording corner and one to the HiFi corner of my room.
Then I can use the HiFi as Monitor B or simply for Music playback.

Both ADI-2 Pro are running "stand-alone" and are set to "Basic Mode: AD/DA".

The ADI-2 Pro in the Recording corner, which is close to the PC with Cubase and MusicBee Player has also an USB connection which serves these purposes:
- music playback (DAW, MusicBee player)
- firmware updates
- remote Control via ADI-2 Remote
- theoretically for DSD over USB, but I regard DSD as pointless, I only mention it for completeness

So this ....
                      /-------ARC USB
PC--------USB2--------------------------------------------------------+ - Remote control using ADI2-Remote
|                                                                                            |  - Flash Updates
| USB3                                                                                   |  - DVD playback
|                                                                                            |
UFX III---ADAT1 OUT ----------------------------------------->ADI-2 Pro FS R BE---AN 1/2 OUT---active monitors
    \     \---ADAT1 IN<-------------------------------------------/                              \---AN 3/4 OUT---phones
     \
      \-----ADAT2 IN<---15m------------------------------------\
       \----ADAT2 OUT---15m--->Optosel 4:1 Mk II---1m---ADI-2 Pro FS R BE---AN1/2 OUT----"High-End"-HiFi / TM FX "Monitor B"
                                 TV--->/                                                                         \---AN3/4 OUT----optional: phones
                         BluRay--->/
                      Reserve--->/

In your setup:
In the application (DAW, music player) you would load the Audient ASIO driver (if Windows).
Through its ADAT port you can play audio for monitoring towards the ADI-2 *

Wow , amazing Ramses manny thanks for your time !

Perfectly explained !!

Will get an Rme in the future to meet my hardware as it’s very convenient with Total mix and all the routings .

Manny thanks again for your time !

I’m now in a Mac with Ableton but can’t lower the buffer any lower then 128 . If I lower my macmini I5 starts crackling and making some weird noises so next bet will be an Rme for sure !

Re: RME ADI-2 Pro FS R Black Edition setup with Audient ID22

One more question, here you say :
“ Both ADI-2 Pro are running "stand-alone" and are set to "Basic Mode: AD/DA".

It’s been always in “Auto” and when I change to Ad/Da option I have no sound output.
Any trick here ?

Re: RME ADI-2 Pro FS R Black Edition setup with Audient ID22

The ADI-2 gets audio from the Audient via optical input?

Is the TOSLINK cable ok? Perform a loop test at the audient by connecting ADAT IN and OUT.
Check whether ADAT OUT to ADAT IN locks and synchronizes. Not sure how to check this on an audient.

Does the Audient route audio to its ADAT output?

If you look at the ADI-2 Pro .. what does the "state overview" in the display tell?
I think in this setup the audient is clock master and the ADI-2 slave, right?
Is the input SP op in the state "sync" and Clock Source SPDIF?

Cross-check with the settings in my blog article here, maybe this helps already:
https://www.tonstudio-forum.de/blog/Ent … our-Setup/

Is CC-Mode set to Multichannel?

If you look at ADI-2 remote, how is the setting for the TAB "Line Out"?
If source is set to Auto, did it default to SPDIF?

Here my settings from ADI-2 Remote

Re: RME ADI-2 Pro FS R Black Edition setup with Audient ID22

Hmm, cannot figure it out. Compared your prints with mine but still not working..
Its in Auto mode and when i change to AD/DA no sound .

Must be some setting in the Audient mixer software that im missing.
Saying that i already email their support so when they get back ill let you know

Manny thanks for the help

Re: RME ADI-2 Pro FS R Black Edition setup with Audient ID22

Assumed clock settings (master, slave) are ok...

Did you check ADAT cables already with the mentioned loopback test by connecting ADAT OUT with ADAT IN on either Audient or ADI-2?

If there is no cable problem, then it is most likely that you don't route audio to the ADAT outputs of the Audient.
You can check this for example by watching the Global Level Meters of your ADI-2 Pro.
If there is no input signal ... nothing can be played in ADDA mode.
The routing in ADDA mode you can see in the block diagram of this mode, take a look, easy to understand.
Then you know whats going on in this routing mode.

The ADI-2 Pro supports SPDIF and even ADAT (takes the first two channels), thus wrong format over TOSLINK can be excluded.

If you are uncertain whether you changed already too much on the ADI-2 Pro, then I would do the following as default action
1. check / update firmware
2. check / update driver (although you run in adda mode, not USB, USB is only for firmware updates and remote control)=
3. perform a full reset of the ADI-2 Pro
4. save these default settings to user setup 9
5. configure ADDA mode, save this as user setup 1 "ADDA"
6. customize ADDA mode (clock slave, etc), save this as user setup 2 and stay in this setting to customize further

Now you can restore the default settings at any time from user profile 9.
Alternatively from user profile 1 as this is default plus ADDA mode instead of AUTO mode.

If the Audient is too tricky, then take into consideration that RME has a better product offering.
You can check for CRC errors pver USB in the driver settings. In the driver settings you also see directly any issues in terms of digital input status (lock and sync), also good for loopback tests.
TotalMix FX shows you in the top rows input signals from the devices inputs.
In the middle row all audio coming from the PC over USB.
Routing is very easy by selecting one HW output in the bottom line and then pulling the fader up of either top or middle row.
This way you can create an individual submix for each of the outputs as needed.
This is a very logic operation and works reliably and also troubleshooting is much easier.
Because you see the input signals in the top and middle row and know upfront if they are there, no issues.
And then you have the great flexibility for routing for every HW output in the bottom row of TM FX.

Recommended for example either BBF Pro or even better UCX II.
Most flexible products UFX II and UFX III (with MADI if you need this).
