Topic: bnc cable for madi connection between ufx 3 and 12 mic

Hey there,
RME recommends "off the shelf" bnc cable for MADI transmission. I'd like to have a sturdy yet souple kind of cable. What is it for ? Place a 12 mic in the middle of a church choir, a barn (I live in the country), and record a session from my truck down the road. Any suggestion ? I see often those blue 6G-SDI cables used in video ? Is it good ? Too much for my needs ? Sommer cable ? Is klotz BNC 75 ohms used for wordclock also good ?
Thanks in advance !

I would use multimode fiber cable, this also gives you galvanic isolation.
Cable length up to 2 km between each of the devices (when they are chained in a serial fashion).

You do not need WC (word clock), the 12Mic can get clock via MADI input.

Regarding remote control of 12Mic, the new TM FX Beta version supports Auxdevice (using MIDI over MADI).

Thanks a lot Ramses for your input. I have the sfp module indeed and a short fiberoptic, god what it looks and feels fragile ! The long alva cables seems strong though. Is it right that bnc AND fiberoptic carry exactly the same different onfos right ? Midi over madi, wordclock on top of the signals ? The rest is a question of length ? Am really a beginner on Madi Hi ?

For the beta version of TM and the integration of the 12 mic, well it came right on time ! Thanks to your email, I downloaded it on the spot and it works quite good. RME's team work on some improvement though.
This is all great gear and the few drum takes I already did sound awesome !

Yes, data is the same. Optical cables on cable drums are very rigid/solid, and much more light-weight and easier to handle than coax. They also fail less in terms fo connectivity (loose contacts, voltage loss over longer cables...typically optical just works).

Ok let's go for ALVA optical then thank you !
