Topic: MADIFace XT II setup slot bug?

I think I'm running into a bug on the MADIFace XT II, but I wanted to sanity check that I'm not just misunderstanding something.

First off, I'm running my MADIFace in USB Class Compliant mode (not using custom RME drivers). I use the custom RME drivers to set up the mixes with TotalMix, but then for actual usage I switch it to USB CC mode.

I have a "passthru" mix in setup slot 1/6 that just sends all my instruments directly to my speakers.

I have a "performance" mix in setup slot 2/6 that routes the signals from each instrument through intermediate boxes (like distortion units, delays, mixers, etc.) and then sends the processed signal to the speakers.

I can switch between these two modes no problem *if the USB cable is unplugged*.

Once the USB cable is plugged in (checked with both laptop and ipad), loading setup slots stops working correctly.

Starting in 1 and loading 2 doesn't seem to do anything.

Starting in 2 and loading 1 seems to leave the intermediate boxes in the mix, but messes up the output gain settings.

Anyone else able to reproduce this issue?

Totalmix 1.97 B2 is out since yesterday.
You may test with new snapshots with minimalistic routing just for test, made with the new Totalmix of course.
It's possible one or both snapshots are broken ?
Download the new Totalmix from here :

None of that, and we just discussed this topic: memory slots are incomplete as they are for stand-alone mode, not online. They don't include playback routing (no playback in stand-alone). So using those memory slots for CC mode will not work, and that's why they are not made available.

Hello MC, that does not explain my observed behavior.

There are two possible interpretations of your statement:

Interpretation 1: "Memory slots are disabled for CC mode"

I don't think this would be a good idea, so I assume this isn't what you mean. In case it is what you mean, it's not the observed behavior. Recalling a memory slot *does something*, but it's something very bad. It just erases my gain settings or something. So if being plugged into USB is supposed to disable slot recall (I hope not), that's not working correctly.

Interpretation 2: "Memory slots only include hardware input->hardware output routing, not software->output routing"

This makes more sense (although I certainly wish it were possible to have software->hardware output routing in CC mode), but it's *also* not the observed behavior.

I am only testing hardware input -> hardware output. The device is failing to recall my *hardware mix settings*, nothing to do with software mix settings.

To reiterate, my two setups are "all hardware devices -> speakers" and "hardware devices -> effects boxes -> speakers". This is a purely hardware thing, no USB audio involved. However, *just being plugged into USB* breaks the above recall.

Here is a quick video I made demoing the issue - may be easier than trying to explain via text https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6dy23sHvs24

Re: MADIFace XT II setup slot bug?

Your interpretation number 2 is what has been explained in post 3 and your video shows it.
That means your device is fine it works as it should.

There must be some miscommunication or misunderstanding here. The video is in no way consistent with interpretation #2.

I emphasize: there is no audio going through USB at any point in this video, except for about 1 second at 2:04 to validate that the CC interface is active. All of the audio you hear in the video is *from hardware*, *to hardware*. It is not coming from USB.

The *hardware routing* settings load is broken *just by being plugged into USB in CC mode*, even if there is no audio being played over USB.

I believe the following very simple invariant should hold in USB CC mode:

0. Device is unplugged from USB
1. I load slot 1.
2. I get some hardware routing behavior X
3. I plug the device in via USB CC mode
4. I load slot 1 again
5. I get some hardware routing behavior Y

Clearly, X should be equivalent to Y. The video demonstrates a violation of this invariant.

Re: MADIFace XT II setup slot bug?

Sorry, but that video confiuses me more than it does help. Especially when after unplugging USB you comment that it is in CC mode - it is clearly in stand-alone mode then.

Can you send me a workspace that includes your Setups 1 and 2 as Snapshots 1 and 2? Then I could try to reproduce the issue.

I wonder if the difference is caused by the CC playback routing as predefined in the 3 modes at the end of chapter 36.

I made a minimal reproduction video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YYFuuupzQfA

Hopefully this makes it clearer.

I didn't even use TotalMix to make this video; I just set slots 3 and 4 to the factory preset and lowered a single gain setting on each slot.

Re: MADIFace XT II setup slot bug?

Thanks a lot for the video.

It turned out that currently only PEQ and FX (Reverb, Echo) data is loaded from Setups in CC mode, but not I/O mixing values. We will try to fix this with a firmware update as soon as possible.

Tremendous, thank you! Looking forward to it
