Topic: Fireface 800 and MacOS Sequoia

My setup (iMac M1, Fireface 800, Logic Pro X) is still running on Sequoia 15.0 without problems! I have the Fireface 800 connected via the usual two (original Apple-)adapter daisychain. Latest driver 3.41 and firmware 2.77 of course.

Additionally all UA-plugins are running. Wavelab Elements 11.2 (which I rarely use) also.

I didn't have to reinstall or update or reactivate anything.

Re: Fireface 800 and MacOS Sequoia

Good morning, I also want to give my testimony: My Fireface 800 connected with the usual two Apple cables to a Mac mini M1 with Cubase 13, it works great, it is already the third OS update without problems and without having to change anything in the setup, I performed the normal Apple update and when I restarted everything works wonderfully... thank you mother RME for giving us this magnificent Fireface 800, as soon as possible I will update with something more recent like 802FS or UFX, RME is a guarantee of functioning, in my studio has always been active for many years without ever a problem (I only changed some capacitors in the power supply a few years ago, €5 cost and easily replaced by me)

I confirm that it works well under Sequoia (15.1.1): I had to change the Firewire port on the back of my Firewire 800 copy so that it would be properly recognized: phew!

I don't think anything will change with further Sequoia updates. Might be different with MacOS 16.

Re: Fireface 800 and MacOS Sequoia

Agree. Also Apple could easily kill anything else (Kerne Extension) but FireWire - they have total control over this. We have to wait and see what they will do.

Re: Fireface 800 and MacOS Sequoia

Either the driver might not be installed correctly, or the unit is not recognized (for whatever reason) at all.

If its related to driver:

1) Set your Mac to reduced security in Startup Security Utility as you need to install kext drivers.
Described here: https://rme-audio.de/rme-macos.html
And here: https://rme-audio.de/reduced-security-mac-m-series.html

2) Reinstall the drivers again

3) If it still doesn't work, in terminal try a:
kmutil trigger-panic-medic --volume-root '/Volumes/YOURVOLUMENAME'
where YOURVOLUMENAME is the name of - your volume wink. Usually Macintosh HD.

4) Reinstall the drivers again

But beware! The configuration is reverted to automatic system updates with this update. I had to reconfigure this. I don't want automatic updates and never wanted for obvious reasons.

Yes. After macOS reboot, my system alerted me about this new configuration to automatic system updates. Of course I also reconfigured this setting. No automatic updates, thanks.

Greetings. I need help. I own a fireface 400. I recently purchased a Macbook Pro M4 with Sequoia 15.3. I have purchased also the 2 apple adapters. I have tried to install the rme drivers (driver_fw_mac_336) but the procedure hasn't been completed. The interface remains unrecogniseable and also it doesn't carry power through the adapters in order to feed the ff without the power supply. The interface is working fine but i am stuck in this situation. Also in the system report at the firewire section no info at all, blank, it doesn't recognise anything. I have already reduced security. Is there any peticular Kernel driver that I have to install and where do i find it?

I am having problems on M4 Mac mini for this version.
I have followed all the procedures and downloaded the right drivers (before this last update 15.6.1 everything worked fine to me) but ff800 and Mac mini don't see each other and the FF apps don't even open even though they are installed correctly.
Any help would be appreciated!

Re: Fireface 800 and MacOS Sequoia

The update shouldn't be the problem. And you didn't change anything else?

Try this first: Wait for the Mac to be fully booted before switching on the Fireface. I do it like this consequently after very rarely having experienced problems the other way around.

Other than that it can be faulty Firewire cable, adapters, power supply or something else on the side of the Fireface.

The same connection I use works perfectly fine on the other Mac mini Intel that I have in my studio (same adapters that are all original).
Nothing else changed, I will try again today and hopefully the gods of audio equipment will spare me.

The only thing that happened after updating was that I got an on screen message about rme legacy drivers but it looked like "do this to keep using them" so I didn't give it too much attention.
After that I started having problems and I reinstalled the drivers again multiple times following the right procedure thoroghly.
