Hello,

I thought there was a thread about this, but searching for "WDM 48K" did not reveal any hits in the HDSP(e) forum.

I saw this thread: http://www.rme-audio.de/forum/viewtopic.php?id=20543 , but I don't think this is the same issue.


On my home mixdown multipurpose desktop DAW PC (W7-64), I'm running a Muiltiface with HDSPe card and most recent 4.04 drivers (noticed this with 4.03 as well).  I'm using 3 Stereo WDM devices (AN1/2; SPDIF and ADAT1/2 - none are assigned as "Speaker").  Runs on internal clock.

I generally don't work @ 48K (I'm always @ 44.1K), but I noticed the other day that if I have the MF's sample rate set to 48K (either manually on the HDSP settings panel or via my DAW/Nuendo 48K project), I can't seem to get any WDM Audio to play.  Even if I try to play a 48K file in WMP or VLC using WDM, it won't play if the HDSPe is set to 48K.

As soon as I manually change the sample rate back to 44.1K, WDM audio begins working again.  I can play 44.1 or 48K files over WDM as long as HDSPe is set to 44.1K.

Is there something I'm doing to cause this?  Would assigning one of the outs as "Speaker" in the DSP settings resolve this?  I can't say if I ever tried using WDM @ 48K with the old 2.x and 3.x drivers, but I'm sure I did at some point over the years.

Bumping this:

If my Multiface is running on internal clock @ 44.1K, WDM playback works fine in Windows (WMP, VLC, iTunes, etc).

The instant I change the Multiface's internal clock to 48K, all WDM audio stops passing in TM.

Using HDSPe Driver 4.04 under W7/64.  Repeatable at will by simply changing the sample rate to 48K and back to 44.1K.

Anyone else experiencing this?  I have not experienced this in the past with old 2.x and 3.x drivers on this same MF/HDSPe setup (at least not that I can remember).

Hi, reading the updated manual helps:

As explained in there this is the way the new driver works and will continue to work. With devices removed and reloaded there is no way for operation to continue without resetting or restarting the audio software.

Thanks MC - I must have missed that part smile

So this should only happen if WMP/iTunes/VLC is open when changing the sample rate?  Meaning it should work if WMP/iTunes/VLC is closed when the sample rate is changed to 48K (and only opened once the sample rate has been changed to 48K)?  Will check this when I get home from work...

It is strange that when I swap back to 44.1 (from 48K) the WDM audio resumes playing (this is while WMP/iTunes was open).

Seems to be indirect user error on my part smile

I recently updated my ATI CCC graphics software, and it re-enabled the HDMI Audio device.  I might be crazy, but it seemed like the WDM audio would try to switch to HDMI when I changed the RME sample rate to 48K, and playback would stop as a result.  WDM was definitely playing through the RME @ 44.1K, though.  Strange.

Re-forcing the RME as the default audio device and disabling HDMI audio fixed me up.  I can change sample rates all day long and WDM will reset itself accordingly - WMP/VLC keeps on playing after a brief pause...

As you were.  Don't be a dummy like me:  Remember to check your default audio settings after updating your graphics drivers if you have any HDMI connections going...
