Topic: HDSP9632 midi problem with selfmade sym. I/O box

Hello RME-Forum,
I have my RME card for a while and was using the unsymetrical cabel.
however, as my speakers have symetrical inputs, so I wanted to try it smile

well, I bought all the parts, placed all connectors in a nice plastic box, soldered like said in manual.
I also have soldered a cabel by myself.

(a bit unclear is the GND.
I have pin9 to headphones GND and the shell to anything else GND)
(due to the problem I have tried Pin9 to MIDI GND and shell to anything else GND, but it´s the same result)

So far my measuring with a multimeter, anything is correct.
but playing midi generates a click on the line in and it comes out of speakers and headphones.

at the screenshot the line in cabel was not connected!
for double check; with the original unsymetrical cabel there is no click!

with hope for help, enlightenment and explanation smile

You didn't write a single word about the most probable cause: you bought a cable with several wires inside and used this from card to external box? Then the lines for audio and MIDI need separate shielding. The necessary cable would be a typical multicore cable where at least all pairs of wires have their own shielding.

Otherwise give more details or no one can help.

actually i got a 16 wire + shild cable.
is shielding for audio on pin 9 and for midi on the shell?

thanks

You need a cable with shield per pair of wires (multiple shields, not just one). You seem to have crosstalk of MIDI to audio because the wires are side by side inside the cable without any separation.

Yo MC!
ok, I think I got it.
would it be possible to use the cable from this multicore
https://a1-images6.static-thomann.de/pics/prod/143049.jpg

or this one?
however, I am not sure if this one have an extra shielding for all cables nor if it is needed.

or could I maybe try to pull out the 4 midi wires of the cable?

and yeah, the other thing with the pin9 and shell?
which one is for what connection?
is it like pin9 to gnd of all pairs and shell to shielding?
I´ve seen somewhere, they said pin9 goes to headphone gnd and the shell to line/midi gnd.

Both cables have individual shielding. Pin 9 only for headphone is recommended for the Babyface, on the 9632 it shouldn't matter.
