Topic: 2 x hdsp 9632 and spdif sync

Hi,

I need to use the internal spdif (sync & out) pins on the 2 x HDSP 9632 cards as I no longer have the external spdif cables.

Do I connect the "Sync" pin on one card to the "Out" pin on the other card? Is this all I need do or also connect the remaining "Out" to "Sync" as well so i use 2 cables?

The manual refers to "Clock mode master" but I don't see this.

On the "Hammerfall DSP settings under windows 7 64bit there seems to be 3 related options. How do i get this in sync what do put in the following for each card (The card with cable connected to "Sync" & the card with cable connected to "Out")

SPDIF In:
    Optical
    Coaxial
    Internal
    TMS

SPDIF Out:
    Optical
    Professional
    Emphasis
    Non-Audio

Clock Source:
    Internal
    Word Clock
    Adat
    Spdif In

Thanks for any help with this

Cheers

One cable is enough, as one card will be the 'master' for the other card, even if the 'master' is slave to an outside clock.

Master card: use 'out' connector, Clock Source set to whatever is appropriate ('Internal' if no external digital sources are connected).

Slave card: use 'in' connector, SPDIF In set to 'Internal', Clock Source set to 'Spdif In'

Re: 2 x hdsp 9632 and spdif sync

Hi,

If done correctly will the "Sync Check" status of SPDIF In show "Locked" instead of "No Lock"

No, it must show Sync. Most probably that card is on a different sample rate.

Re: 2 x hdsp 9632 and spdif sync

Thanks for help with this smile

Still getting the big crackle and distortion in recording after about 7 minutes with the 2 cards and "No lock" in Sync Check window.

Have both cards on 256 sample rate. Have a single wire between Sync and Out internal pins. See pics below:

What is the "Pref. Sync" referring to in manual?

The card of which SYNC OUT is used will be master, the SYNC IN one will be
slave. SPDIF In / Internal has to be selected in the Settings dialog. Additionally Pref. Sync
Ref has to be set to SPDIF In for this internal connection to work properly.

Here is some pics of my setup, HDSP (1) has the cable on "Sync" pin,  HDSP (2) has the cable on the "Out" pin:

Card 1 does not see any input signal. No wonder, that cable is wrong. The cards are usually shipped with a 2 pin cable fitting on that socket. It can't work with one wire as the internal input is ground free balanced, so one pin must be grounded.
