Topic: Using ADAT

Hi,

This question may have been asked many times I guess.  Sorry about that.

Is there a way to use the ADAT connections on my Fireface 800 or 802 the connect these I/O to an old 70’s British analog console TRS jacks I/O’s?

Thank you.

Re: Using ADAT

You need an AD/DA converter in between like i.e. the ADI-8 DS Mk III.

I see....  I assume I’ll need one for each ADAT (1 and 2)

Thank you.

Re: Using ADAT

No, most converter have 2 ADAT ports, which enable you to use
16 channels @44.1/48 kHz
8 channels @88.2/96 kHz (SMUX)
4 channels @/192 kHz (SMUX4)

On the Produkt page for the ADI-8 DS you see clearly in the description and on the pictures
2 x ADAT I/O (SMUX und SMUX4)

Re: Using ADAT

The ADI-8 will only do 8 channels at 44 and 48k. The second ADAT port is only independent for 96 or 192k signals.

RME M16 AD amd M16 DA will do 16 channels at 44/48.

Re: Using ADAT

Sorry, didn't think of this, was more looking from the perspective of a recording interface, where this is usually possible.

Now thinking a little bit more about reasons....

For a recording interface like the UFX II it makes sense to connect 2 different preamps to ADAT1 and ADAT2.

The main reasons for an ADAT port on an 8 port preamp or converter is to transport its 8 channels as it has only 8 channels.
