Sorry, didn't think of this, was more looking from the perspective of a recording interface, where this is usually possible.
Now thinking a little bit more about reasons....
For a recording interface like the UFX II it makes sense to connect 2 different preamps to ADAT1 and ADAT2.
The main reasons for an ADAT port on an 8 port preamp or converter is to transport its 8 channels as it has only 8 channels.
