Topic: fireface 400 and windows 10 problem

hay everybody!
im having some isseu on windos 10, imidiatly when i turn the FF 400 on, my PC (i7 16g ram) just freezes. i had to shut it down manualy...
and also i canot exess the RME settings, it just wont open.
i think i tryed every hardware/software fixing posibility that can make this problem including legacy update to my TI pciE card.
i know it related to windos hardware becous it works just fine on my macbook pro.
what could be the problem??

Which Win 10 ?
Which Chipset on FW400 card ?
Did you try the Win10 FW legacy drivers (google for that).

You has to power it off, right ? If Windows is frozen, then a clean shutdown is very unlikely.

Quite old but should not be an issue

You look either on vendors webpage or look at the card itself.

and you know that you have to enable it in device manager ?

As a last step eventually Win10 upgrade to latest version, make a backup 1st (using ie Macrium Reflect).

What would be interesting to know .. whether this is now a sudden problem ?
Did the FW card / RME device ever run stable on your Windows system ?
Or did this happen i.e. after upgrade from Win7 to 10 ?

Ever tried a clean Win7 or Win10 installation ?

Most likely invalid approach, this driver is for Windows 8/8.1.
That would explain the freezes.

In Win10 a lot changed, I would not expect older driver to run ...

Back out this installation and use the Win 10 legacy driver I proposed in the posting above.

i see that on your link its says If you are running Windows 10, you will need to use the Windows 8 / 8.1 Legacy driver.  So follow the same steps as Windows 8 / 8.1.
so... its soposed to work..

OK, Plan B: Did you also read that part of the webpage ?

"Note: I received an email from Mike Tilka and he was having a problem getting the FireWire port working on his Dell XPS 8100 and on an Gateway computer with the drivers from above.  He said he needed to get the driver from this link for his computers:

Plan C: make backup and upgrade to the latest Win10 and repeat the procedure
a) with the M$ driver
b) with the driver of the other URL

hay thare!
so i tried evrery thing on the list and didnt manage to make it work but we do have progress...
now when i turn the ff 400 on, the win not freezes and when i plug my headphons and mic i was able to here and to get signal and even to open rme settings and to turn on phantom power...
the farest i did get is to open cubase pro 9.5 and to choose to activet the ff asio driver and in the moment its starts its freezes!!
so somthing is correct but still have broblem to get it work..
any ideas?

This one is known to cause problems, the exception among TI chips. You could try to use a PCIe Firwire card with a different chip.

what if i will install windows 7 on my computer?
