Hi

FYI .. after performing a fresh installation of Win10 20H2 all random audio drops from a Win7 to 10 upgrade installation are gone. I can use MusicBee now with an ASIO buffersize of 32 and no issues, even when browsing the internet.

Very nice positive result and rock solid RME drivers !

Other nice thing, I do not need any 3rd party driver anymore, everything supported by Microsoft (nVidia RTX 2070 Super, Sonnet USB3 card with FL1100 chipset, Startech USB3.1 card with ASMedia Chipset // and Intel USB3 and Ethernet driver of the mainboard).

Windows 10 21H1 - sometimes I had audio glitches.
The following combination of changes brought stability and very low DPC latencies also for nVidia

1. Mainboard: Supermicro X10SRi-F - downgrade BIOS from v3.1c to v2.0b (from 02.05.2017)
This is the BIOS version with support for E5-1650v4 (Broadwell-EP) and DDR4-2400, but without firmware upgrades for Spectre and Meltdown. I wanted to be able to deactivate those firmware upgrades entirely to get maximum performance of the CPU again.

2. GPU: MSI GeForce RTX 2070 SUPER Gaming X Trio - downgrade to nVidia driver version 442.74.
According to this nVidia forum thread this driver version has low DPCs: https://www.nvidia.com/en-us/geforce/fo … h-dpc-lat/

3. Windows 10 Pro 21H1
a)  disabling CPU firmware upgrades for Spectre and Meltdown
Using the tool InSpectre: https://www.grc.com/inspectre.htm
I do not recommend disabling the fixes if your system is connected to the internet, I disabled it only for testing.
b) using energy profile "Ultimative Performance" (already done b4, mentioned for completeness)
With Admin rights: powercfg -duplicatescheme e9a42b02-d5df-448d-aa00-03f14749eb61 and reboot.
Then choose it and usual tweaks: stop dia show, deactivate selective USB power saving
c) optimize Windows scheduler for background services (already done b4, mentioned for completeness)

4. USB3.0 card: Sonnet Allegro Pro USB3.0 PCIe, 4x Fresco Logic 1100 Chipset
Using Win10 21H1 Fresco Logic USB 3.0 eXtensible Hostcontroller driver 10.0.19041.1081 (already done b4, mentioned for completeness)

5. RME UFX+, firmware v46, MADIface driver v0.9735, connected to Sonnet Allegro  (already done b4, mentioned for completeness)
ASIO Buffersize: 32 samples @44.1

6. Deinstalled Kaspersky Internet Security, reactivated Windows Defender (already done b4, mentioned for completeness)
LatencyMon: much lesser DPC/lag when accessing the network/internet with Firefox and no audio drops

7. Results during/after 1.5h of music playback
- MusicBee 3.4.7805 using the RME MADIface ASIO driver: no audio glitches anymore
- RME driver settings: not a single CRC transport error
- LatencyMon v7.0:
- nVidia Windows Kernel mode driver (nvlddmkm.sys): highest DPC execution time around 400us, with Firefox up to 700us
- it's even possible to use Outlook and Firefox to access network, DPC exec times of nvlddmkm.sys stay under 850us

This looks very promising, same good performance like initially under Windows 7 it appears to me.
Not sure which change or optimization exactly fixed the issue with random audio glitches w/o any deterministic behaviour.
I assume that the sum of those optimizations finally lead to optimum results.

BTW .. to stay on Win 10 Pro 21H1 I added these two registry keys according to information found here: https://www.computerworld.com/article/3 … lling.html
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\WindowsUpdate
- add DWORD TargetReleaseVersion = 1
- add String    TargetReleaseVersionInfo = "21H1"

Don't know whether this really works, lets see. 21H1 works quite nice, so I want to stay with it a little longer.

Hard pagefaults are events that get triggered by making use of virtual memory that is not resident in RAM but backed by a memory mapped file on disk. The process of resolving the hard pagefault requires reading in the memory from disk while the process is interrupted and blocked from execution.
