Topic: [Solved] TM FX and Settings not working on Macmini M1 with Big Sur

Hi there,

I have been running through all the post on this subject to get this very annoying problem fixed. I bought a brand new Macmini with an M1 chip.

The system has Big Sur installed (11.6) . My audio interface is an RME Fireface 802, which I use with a USB cable. the setup works fine on an older Mac. so the unit and cable are checked.

I've tried changing the Security Settings through recovery mode. Also the trick with the terminal to get the permission or allow option again, I've tried in many times. Every instance it seems as if the Fireface is not seen by the system. The blue light is on though. In system sound preferences there is no mention of the Fireface, so I presume the driver does not work.

I have also tried to check in what order to restart the machine. This can be done in the installation dialog or through the Security & Privacy pane. I've tried both options. None of these strategies seem to do the trick. I still end up with the same result.

Totalmix , when you click it, doesnt show any window. Fireface settings quits automatically after being clicked. Is there anyone who has a working M1 mac with a Fireface 802 and Big Sur? What else can I do?

If downgrading to a previous OS will help I will gladly do it. It is just frustrating that I bought the mac with the intention of having a fast new system in combination with the Fireface, which up till now I have been really happily using.

if anyone can help I will be very grateful

What I would do :
Delete every file from RME.
Upgrade the OS to latest Monterey 12.0.1
Then install the RME driver : https://rme-audio.de/downloads/driver_fw_mac_341.zip
Go thru the Security settings and allow the driver.
Reboot
Connect 802 and see the magic (hopefully)

okay. With Big Sur, do you know where the RME files are? I found most of them myself but maybe you have knowledge over the files that have to be removed for a clean install?

I'm willing to risk upgrading at the cost of some software or plugins not working anymore. I'd much rather have that than being stuck with an RME unit that doesn't do anything. If it doesn't work I'll have to think about my options. I'll be sure to backup the system I have now.

I'll let you know if it works and hope maybe other people have dealt with this combination too. I usually see either the Babyface or UC units being mentioned. If I understand it correctly this seems to be an Apple problem so it gives me little hope RME themselves will come with a fix......

I just used the search function in the Finder, did never memorize where they are.
Very long time ago I had to do such procedure as it runs fine.
I was surprised by the step from BigSur to Monterey of not losing any plugins nor software. All fine.

i'll give it a go. I think I  found the files in question. Deleted those. Now backingup this setup and then I will try the upgrade.

Unfortunately it did not work, same result with Monterey. I also used the terminal so that the question to allow the extension was asked again. Even that didn't do anything. Total Mix starts but the windows is not shown. Fireface just quits. The audio interface is not seen by the computer.......

Any other suggestions, anyone?

Not related at all. This is USB, not FireWire with a firmware more than 10 years old...that said I have no clue why the unit is not detected in this case.

Just to make sure – you are trying it using the USB driver and not the FireWire driver which got linked above, or?

Re: [Solved] TM FX and Settings not working on Macmini M1 with Big Sur

oh i didn't know there were seperate installers for the Fireface 802?
the previous post about flashing the RME did bring me to check that as well. I did a firmware update on my other mac (where the unit functions perfectly already). There was older firmware on it. However the same result still (of course again i had used the kmutil command etc etc) ......TotalMix is not showing.

Forgive me if I overlooked this but are there several drivers for the 802 or just 1?

let me know please.

Re: [Solved] TM FX and Settings not working on Macmini M1 with Big Sur

Wow, I see now that I never choose the right driver.........how very stupid of me. Now I have the problem that the software cannot yet be installed on Monterery.....

I will reinstall from a backup back to Big Sur and will let you know how it worked. Fingers crossed smile)

greets and sincere thanks for suggesting what I should have checked better.

Re: [Solved] TM FX and Settings not working on Macmini M1 with Big Sur

It works! I realised if I had take a little bit more time to read through all the install version I would probably saved myself a great deal of stress. However I'm very happy everything is working again.

Thanks again
