Topic: A minor complaint

I'm an HDSP(e) AIO user, is it normal behaviour that the computer has to be rebooted when reducing the Buffer Size?
If I don't reboot the card basically doesn't work, I get ticking, crackling or just horrible noises.

Other than the above, I'm a happy camper with this card.

Sorry, but without more details about your setup, this posting is meaningless.

Apple or Windows ? What device ? What applications ? Which are the steps to reproduce this?

I can only speak for windows here. When using a DAW, it is usually always possible to change the buffer size during playback of sound or while the project is opened.

But this is not the case for all other applications such as music players where the developers do not have the experience to interface with an ASIO driver in a proper way.

To put one example: the author of MusicBee was so kind to fix / support change of sample rates during playback.
But changing the buffersize is still not possible without audio/playback to become stuck. Needs always a restart of the application (but not the computer).

So after this little background .. what is the setup and the problem exactly? I am wondering that you say, that a reboot is required. This sounds very strange, so more details would be interesting.

No, not normal... But indeed more details are required. Can you test the card in another slot?

This is what brings the problem on:

Start PC

Start Cubase with Buffer set 256 for example

Open any project

Lower the Buffer to any lower number

Sound is garbled followed immediately with ticking which slowly increases in volume

Change Buffer, with project active, back to the higher number works fine

Lower Buffer number, back to garbled, ticking sound

______________________________________________

This the only way I've found to fix this:

Leave the lower number in DSP Settings

Restart PC

All's good, everything is working fine.

Disabled all 3rd Party plugs, makes no difference.

I don't know what else to tell you...
