Topic: Routing software input such as iTunes to Physical output

Hello,
I recall that there is a way to route software such as iTunes to a physical input so then you can record it in GarageBand.
(I once managed to do that)
I looked over this forum and searched over the internet and it seems RME did excellent job of hiding it, so it is almost impossible to find it again.
I would really appreciate if someone can pinpoint me to the relevant place to do it.

RME you did tremendous work with your hardware, but the software need a complete overall. It so unusable and so unfriendly that every time that you don't work with it for some time you need to find how to do everything all over again.

There is a button for "loopback" on the output channels, that is the function you are looking for.

Search that term in this forum or take a look at our Youtube videos such as this one:

I really have to agree with these comments....TotalMix FX could never be described as "user-friendly".

Re: Routing software input such as iTunes to Physical output

It’s not that bad and the features mean we can do the things others can’t

Babyface Pro Fs, Behringer ADA8200, win 10/11 PCs, Cubase/Wavelab, Adam A7X monitors.

That still doesn't contradict the fact that the GUI can be more user friendly.
You can have both:
Many features
AND
User friendly GUI

Yes I already found this one but still I can't seems to figure out how can I route the software to one of the physical outputs.
This is my current routing:

If I understand correctly iTunes is routed to ADAT3/4
I can see it playing but how can I choose this output in GarageBand?

Re: Routing software input such as iTunes to Physical output

Ok so I answer to myself in case someone else will have the same issues.
- Play something in iTunes
- Watch the meter go up in the software row
- Make sure that underneath that you see AN 1/2 ( means you are now routing the music to output 1 or 2 )
- In the hardware row choose AN 1/2
- Press on the wrench icon and choose loopback
- Raise the slider in the software row, you should now see the meter go up as well in the hardware row
- Go to GargeBand open audio channel, and choose output 1 or 2
- You should now see that the meter in GargeBand respond to iTunes
- Make sure that monitor is off, otherwise you will hear noise

Now I need to figure out how can I route different apps to different software outputs.
So GargeBand won't play back on the playback from iTunes...

BTW.. I explained to you routing in submix mode already in this thread, maybe you overlooked it?
https://forum.rme-audio.de/viewtopic.ph … 94#p180194

Regarding your steps above, one addition, and little correction in terms of order/causality

1. you need to be in submix mode
[ best to use 3-row mode to have sw playbacks in the middle ]

2. In the bottom row, HW Outputs, choose AN 1/2. As a consequence of submix mode:
a) fader positions of HW inputs and SW playbacks show the individual submix of the selected HW output and
b) at the bottom of these faders in top and middle row you see the name of the HW output  for which the submix is shown.

You should first familiarise yourself with the operating concept before making hasty judgements.
