Topic: Does anyone other than RME Technicians understand the Totalmix GUI?

I've had my Total Mix for many years and have managed to somehow cobble togather a working setup with my Cubase 11 and Internal HDSPE AIO Soundcard, but my god it looks like chinese maths. Is there anyone out there that could help me fathom this thing out?

The AIO manual describes the older TotalMix. To have full information on current capabilities and functions download the AIO Pro manual:

https://www.rme-audio.de/downloads/hdspeaiopro_e.pdf

It also includes an easier to understand introduction to the user interface, especially this paragraph that explains the underlying routing and selection principle:

Usage in mode Submix View (Default)

Click on the Hardware Output channel in the third row where the audio signal is supposed to show up. This channel turns brighter, means it is selected as current submix. Now move the faders up from all sources – these are the input and playback channels, in the first and second row. That’s it. The input (monitoring) and playback (DAW software) audio signals are now available at that very output, which can be verified immediately from the level meters reacting accordingly.

Check this collection of RME tutorial videos from my blog:
https://www.tonstudio-forum.de/blog/Ent … al-Videos/

Especially the ones about routing. The videos are very informative, to the point and therefore take very little time.

I recommend you watch the other videos as well, this gives an excellent overview of the operation and features of TotalMix FX.

You should also not be afraid to take a look at the very well-structured manual. Following the videos, this will also be easier to understand, since you will already be more familiar with the product features.

Some good advice already in this thread.  If you can grok the paradigm (well worth it) you won't believe the Powah.

Alternatively, if you don't need the submixing or control room functionality, choose Operational Mode: Digital Audio Workstation.  It's just a straight I/O mode.  But beware - switching to this mode and back to Full Mode will blank your settings.  Save a Workspace first.

When using DAW mode he will lose a lot of flexibility for his monitoring.

Then all audio flows have to be routed through USB/DAW with the full RTL (round trip latency).
One of the big strength of such a digital mixer is, that you can create monitoring mixes, where
- audio from HW inputs to HW outputs can be routed in near-realtime
- you can create a mix of audio which partially comes from the PC and partially from HW inputs

Then I would rather suggest to use TM FX full mode and provide there with one mouse click a basic routing, which is the same that you would get in DAW mode as a base. Take this as a starting point and add routings as needed.

See also my posting here, how easy this is to achieve:
