Topic: [Solved] Installation failed Fireface USB 328 macOS 13.2.1 Ventura

Dear Forum!

I have an urgent request since I am about to prepare for a gig.
My old macbook pro crashed and now I upgraded to a Macbook Pro 13-inch, M1, 2020.
I use a Babyeface Pro and love it. Also need the ADAT etc.
However I cannot seem to install the Driver.

Did all that is required incl. Reduced Security -> Allow user management of kernel extensions from identified developers.
But after reboot the Installation of Fireface USB 328.pkg simply fails.
I cannot install at all and cannot seem to find anything on this in the forum.

Been going at it for 3 hours now but losing my patience and my mind.

Can somebody PLEASE HELP ME smile Would hate to have to switch to a different Interface.

It just says "The Installation failed."

I dont have a solution (I'm on PC), but perhaps you can put it into CC mode just go get it going for the gig?

Hey there. Thank you for writing either way. What is cc mode?

Class Compliant mode, pp 90 in your manual, which you find here: https://www.rme-audio.de/downloads/bface_pro_fs_e.pdf

Re: [Solved] Installation failed Fireface USB 328 macOS 13.2.1 Ventura

Thank you.
However, I really need Totalmix to work so that I am able to work at all.
And seeing that the driver is Ventura compatible and others got it to work
I'm just a bit at a loss about what the issue is.
Followed all the instructions right and still: nothing :'(
Really unfortunate with this expensive and supposedly reliable hardware...

Re: [Solved] Installation failed Fireface USB 328 macOS 13.2.1 Ventura

I understand, just tried to give you a life line. And the RME hardware is extremely reliabe. The issues you are having seem to come from Apple weirdness, of which I know very little.

I hope someone Apple-savvy sees your post soon.

Re: [Solved] Installation failed Fireface USB 328 macOS 13.2.1 Ventura

I have no explanation for 'the installation failed', but why not then try the 4.06 Dk driver here?

Re: [Solved] Installation failed Fireface USB 328 macOS 13.2.1 Ventura

Hello!

I tried that beta version also and same thing...

Is there anything else I can do?
Do I have to switch interfaces now?

Why does my Ventura Machine not accept the installation?
Is there any fixes? Any terminal commands I can try?
Any other way to install it?

Re: [Solved] Installation failed Fireface USB 328 macOS 13.2.1 Ventura

The same error from a totally different driver? Never had that before. That sounds more like you need to reset your whole OS installation...

Re: [Solved] Installation failed Fireface USB 328 macOS 13.2.1 Ventura

I mean I just started with this machine yesterday and everything is NEW.
But I guess ill just have to go back to zero and try again lol...

Re: [Solved] Installation failed Fireface USB 328 macOS 13.2.1 Ventura

Update...

So after completely reinstalling OS and not using migration assistent with my old backup
I managed to get my babyface pro running again.

Thank u for the help and kind replies <3

Re: [Solved] Installation failed Fireface USB 328 macOS 13.2.1 Ventura

Actually, just having exactly the same issue here on macOS 13.2.1 with both 328 and 406

However, resetting or reinstalling the entire OS in order to solve the problem seems too demanding for an ordinary user - it not only involves installing the OS, but also tons of other software. I think RME should look into the driver's compatibility with the current version of macOS, given how pricy your equipment is. And this no longer looks like an isolated problem. Thanks.

Re: [Solved] Installation failed Fireface USB 328 macOS 13.2.1 Ventura

So you get a message saying 'Installation failed' after the driver setup finishes?

Yes, I did. I also did an OS reinstallation without wiping the disk from the Recovery mode, but no luck. That would be ridiculous if a clean reinstallation is needed to solve this issue. I definitely want to avoid that, as I have so many other applications and hardware configured on this machine. Thanks.

Re: [Solved] Installation failed Fireface USB 328 macOS 13.2.1 Ventura

A quick Google revealed that in Ventura it seems to be necessary to 'allow' the Downloads folder, otherwise that error message might show up:

https://support.displaylink.com/knowled … ion-failed

From a different video:
Do you know how to fix installation failed for Zoom?

Thank you so much for looking into this. And it effectively solved the problem.

Re: [Solved] Installation failed Fireface USB 328 macOS 13.2.1 Ventura

This is becoming more common, as Apple both change and secure things.
Makes it incredibly difficult for developers (I'm sure you'd agree Matthias), but hopefully we're moving toward more secure and stable systems, as some of the rogues out there try a take/steal from the vulnerable.

Re: [Solved] Installation failed Fireface USB 328 macOS 13.2.1 Ventura

Driver 409 is the actual one.
MacOS Sonoma 14.0 is the actual one.
Keep software up-to-date...?
And what interface you want to use ?
Has it the newest firmware ?

Re: [Solved] Installation failed Fireface USB 328 macOS 13.2.1 Ventura

Hej waedi :-) Thanks for your reply! Fixed it now! I had just given access on "INSTALLER-OSC" and not the normal "INSTALLER"! And when the guide work perfect! (https://support.displaylink.com/knowled … ion-failed)

Re: [Solved] Installation failed Fireface USB 328 macOS 13.2.1 Ventura

Glad you fixed it, i have no clue what you mean with these two installers. Fireface driver is only one installer.

Re: [Solved] Installation failed Fireface USB 328 macOS 13.2.1 Ventura

During the installation, i had to confirm that the Installer removes old Extensions by deleting (the old) Fireface USB Settings app. No prob... After the installation completed, the allknown popup came that the "loading of system software by Fireface USB Settings app" has to be confirmed. No prob. (Im pretty sure it is due the new dk extension. Accepted it in the security settings. And the FF USB Settings app came up with v 4.09. Even before the installer forecd me to reboot... fine.
Ok - to complete, i rebooted.

After reboot, TM and the Fireface USB Settings app (v4.09) came up. Audio and interface works flawlessly.

But... now i see the message "Your current security settings prevents the installation of system extensions"... Why?
When i click on "Activate System Extensions" (and after putting my password), the following message cames up: "To enable system extensions, you need to change your security settings in the recovery environment."
To make it clear: I know the difference of system extensions and system software (or dk drivers).

I am sure it has nothing to do with the new RME driver installation.
But - sonoma (in my case 14.0 (23A344)) wants the user to to disable the SIP settings in recovery mode? I think due the new Driver Installation something was touched under /Library/Extensions and sonoma wants to rebuild its kext cache? Apple, what is this?... roll

Did somebody had something similar?

Re: [Solved] Installation failed Fireface USB 328 macOS 13.2.1 Ventura

As you had a a Kernel Extension driver installed before you also must have your security settings in low mode. Maybe Sonoma wants you to set this back to default - high security.

Re: [Solved] Installation failed Fireface USB 328 macOS 13.2.1 Ventura

I changed from the RME kext driver to driver kit a long time ago. And I did not have any other/foreign kexts installed.

SIP is/was always at this state:

maggie@sonomamac ~ % csrutil status
System Integrity Protection status: enabled.
maggie@aonommac ~ % csrutil authenticated-root status
Authenticated Root status: enabled

However, I ignored sonomas demand to lower/disable the SIP settings. And after 3-5 reboots (and days) the message doesnt appear anymore... courious, just wanted to let you know
