Topic: ADI-2 (second generation) not powering on without DC cable reset

I have installed my ADI-2 to my studiodesk and use it for in/out SPDIF with UA Apollo Firewire. My problem is that if/when I switch off the main DC out from the desk and switch it back on ADI-2 does not power on. I need to plug out the DC connector and then plug it in again. After that ADI-2 powers on. What is the reason and how to fix it?

Re: ADI-2 (second generation) not powering on without DC cable reset

• Does the light around the Power button come up when you switch on mains on the desk?

• Is the locking DC plug all in and locked (quarter turn) - no silver visible?

- The light does not come up. Only if you pull the plug out and then back in.
- Hmm... Is the plug some how lockable? Have I missed this feature?

Yes, as mentioned:
Plug it ALL in until you don‘t see any silver part - turn it a bit to find the correct position for that.
Then a quarter turn locks it against being accidentally being pulled out.

It‘s in the manual, but I can‘t refer to a page as I don‘t know which ADI-2 model you have:
• ADI-2 DAC
• ADI-2 Pro
• ADI-2/4 Pro SE

I see. I have "Basic" ADI-2 from 2004-2005 and I guess it does not have the lockable plug.

Re: ADI-2 (second generation) not powering on without DC cable reset

This is probably just a failing power supply then, it's nearly 10 years old. You would need an adapter model with DC output around 12 Volts / 2 Amps, barrel dimensions 5.5mm outer, 2.1mm inner and center pin is +

This one, according to the picture it could already have the lockable plug too:

The lockable plug hole is not round.

Else your PSU is broken.

To be honest, the original PSU died two months ago and now using RME Fireface US's PSU which is ok.

That's why I'm here. big_smile

Re: ADI-2 (second generation) not powering on without DC cable reset

Any other fitting PSU, with correct polarity, voltage and power, at hand?

Will try but I'm pretty sure this is not because of the PSU. But will try any way.

If a 12V DC power supply is in operation and then the 12V plug is plugged into a device, this leads to a considerably higher inrush current in the 12V device than if everything is connected and the mains switch is turned on. If this describes your situation and the power supply is OK, then the old ADI-2 has a technical problem.

A - probably only short-term - solution:
Get a time relay for mains operation and delay (> 1 second) the switching on of the 12V line to the ADI-2 with the relay.

Problem of the ADI-2 could have led to overload and defect of the power supply unit.

Are all analogue outputs (also headphones) of the ADI-2 still faultless?
