Topic: ADI-2/4 Pro SE connecting to Orion Studio SC with Monitor Ctrl

Hi,
I just purchased the ADI-2/4 pro se ,and having a hard time getting it to work with my orion studio sc. and Heritage Audio RAM 2000 monitor controller. The Orion Studio sc has in/out spdif as well as adat. The heritage audio has spdif in.

What would be the best way to connect these in order to take advantage of the RME's ad/da conversion ?

Thanks in advance

If you need just one stereo send it’s simple:

• Connect either Orion’s ADAT or SPDIF Coax in and out to ADI-2/4 Pro SE.

• Connect ADI-2/4 Pro SE’s analog out 1/2 to RAM 2000’s input with a pair of balanced XLRf-TRS (preferable) or TRS-TRS cables.

• In case you can additionally use ADI-2/4 Pro SE’s front output 3/4 for headphones.

• In the factory default settings “Auto-“ / “AD/DA-Mode” ADI-2/4 Pro SE’s analog in / AD is routed to Orion, so whatever you connect there should show up in Orion.

• Use Orion’s I/O panel to configure it accordingly.

In factory default’s “Auto-Mode” (manual page 39), if no USB or 2nd digital source is connected, ADI-2/4 Pro SE does all settings automatically, so you can skip the following steps:

• ADI-2/4 Pro SE is set e.g. to AD/DA-Mode, see manual page 41.
• Select the chosen input in ADI-2/4’s I/O menu for listening.

Re: ADI-2/4 Pro SE connecting to Orion Studio SC with Monitor Ctrl

Thanks KaiS, I'll give this a try today.

update :

Ok so I have it hooked up as you mentioned. Clock source is auto sample rate is 48k as is orion. Analog and digital cables are both in, but no sound to my heritage audio,so I cannot hear anything. Sound is working fine from my orion studio, but not the rme.

• Is ADI-2/4 in factory default state?
To reset to factory default, push and hold VOL Button (NOT the VOLUME Dial) and Encoder1 while powering up, until the message “Reset done” appears.

• Do you send audio from the Orion to it’s digital out?
Orion‘s I/O panel can be a bit tricky.

• Pressing Encoder 1 twice (from Line Output 1/2 screen) opens a screen that shows metering of all ins and outs at the same time.

If you don’t see anything here, ADI-2/4 doesn’t receive audio.
If you see something on the input, but nothing on the output, ADI-2/4 isn’t configured correctly or the output is muted or dialed down.

• What if you plug headphones to ADI-2/4’s front, 1/2 and 3/4?

If you see something on the input, but nothing on the output, ADI-2/4 isn’t configured correctly or the output is muted or dialed down. I see stereo Spdif signals

• What if you plug headphones to ADI-2/4’s front, 1/2 and 3/4?

Headphones 3/4 are working - if I plug into Headphones 1/2 there's a message that says to use headphones 3/4

If you have sound on 3/4 and non on 1/2, 1/2 is either dialed down in volume or muted.

Do you see “1/2 mute” or “1/2 -oo” in the lower left corner?
Try to turn it up with the Volume dial.

Check:
SETUP / Options / Phones / Dual Phones: should be “ON”
SETUP / Options / Phones / Bal TRS Ph Mode: should be “OFF”
SETUP / Options / Phones / Toggle Ph/Line: should be “OFF”
SETUP / Options / Phones / Mute v. Ph 1/2: should be “OFF”
SETUP / Options / Phones / Mute v. Ph 3/4: should be “OFF”

Should be automatically, but just to be sure, check:
I/O / Line Output 1/2 / Settings / AD/DA Source: “SPDIF c” (I assume you do use the Coax digital input).

Be sure no USB cable is plugged. USB dominates the other inputs in Automatic Mode.

KaiS,
This helped tremendously, thank you so much for taking the time to point this out. I did your steps and now I have sound which is so very beautiful. I appreciate your patience.

For the future reference: which step did it for you?

I tried to replicate your problem by doing a reset to factory default, but with no avail.
Had sound without having to take any extra measures.

I'm assuming the factory reset and I/O / Line Output 1/2 / Settings / AD/DA Source: “SPDIF c” was it.
