Topic: Fireface UFX III AES "single speed" clock problem via AES

Hi everyone!

Hi I am a new user of the UFX III.

I bought this device mainly because of the AES port (via XLR) to use it to transmit data to TC Electronic Finalizer Express.
This particular device works in two sample rates: 44 and 48 kHz.

Before purchasing, I read that the UFX III has a so-called Sinlge Speed mode, which the manual describes as follows:
"Single Speed causes the output signal to always stay within the range of 32 kHz to 48 kHz. So at 96 kHz and 192 kHz sam-
ple rate, the output word clock is 48 kHz"

And this is how I planned to work - in a 96 kHz session, having TC Electronic Finalizer Express in mode at 48kHz in "single speed" mode

However, this mode DOES NOT WORK in my case and TC Electronic Finalizer Express does not synchronize (No lock)

Is this problem known?

I am only after purchase, I can still return the device.

regards,
radwoc

Where did you read about single speed mode? Do you have the manual page for that?
I would like to cross-check, whether this is really the wanted functionality.

Of course!

Thanks, I also found it quickly when searching for "single".

Well, it looks this is related to work clock, do you use word clock for clock synchronzation?

What I'm wondering is what the purpose of this is. Never heard about such a setup without a sample rate converter in between.

The UFX III does not have a sampling rate converter.

I wonder what the point is if the UFX III runs at double speed and the TC at single speed.

Normally, all devices must be clocked with the same sample rate; otherwise you would have problems with the pitch.

Single Speed WC is needed for (mostly) older devices that were new to 96 and 192 kHz, and typically for SMUX devices (ADAT).

The TC most probably needs the real clock rate, and can not be used with a different one (unless there is an SRC involved).
