Topic: UCX II Volume & Buffer size

helloe i have 2 question

1. sometime i change the buffer size for example from 1024 to 96 but in the daw when you see the miliseconds its not change and the latency is still on (work on Cubase)

2. about Volume - I work around -30 volume in the interface (UCX II) sometime i play things and i hear like the volume gets lower (same volume in interface) and then i turn off the interface and and turn it on again and its fixed ( ts happend a lot) how can i make it stop? there is some setting that do that to keep my ears? some cellings?

Re: UCX II Volume & Buffer size

General advice: you should check whether you are using the latest driver and firmware.
Is this the case here? Can you please tell driver and firmware version?

to 1)

Which Cubase version is in use?

Are you sure that you have loaded the correct RME ASIO driver in Cubase? Cubase always displays the correct input and output latency of the ASIO driver and updates itself immediately when you change the buffer size in the RME driver settings.

Please provide 2 screenshots as shown here with 2 different ASIO buffer sizes.

to 2)

Is perhaps volume automation active in Cubase? Or does the volume also alter outside of Cubase?
Could it perhaps happen accidently by any type of volume control by a multimedia keyboard?

Re: UCX II Volume & Buffer size

Your description sounds a bit strange because it sounds as if you call RME driver settings from Cubase to change the ASIO buffer size.

The only menu that I know where Cubase itself opens RME driver settings is in the project settings, but there for changing the sample rate not the ASIO buffer size.

For changing the ASIO buffer size in the project you usually open the RME driver settings outside of cube and this should always work, not like you said (or I understood you) that it sometimes works and sometimes not.

I would contact RME support per mail, you can send the URL to this thread as reference.

Re: UCX II Volume & Buffer size

@Roy
Are you on Mac ? What MacOS version and Mac (intel or M-Mac) ? And Cubase version ?
Opening the buffersetting for the driver is typical for DAWs on Mac, not from the project settings but from the general preferences of the DAW, Reaper and Logic does it this way and afaik Cubase too.

Re: UCX II Volume & Buffer size

@waedi: good point, that will be it. Unfortunately, he didn't respond to ASIO himself (Apple doesn't have it) and didn't provide a screenshot, which would have shown it.

Well, regarding his two issues (most likely on Mac), there I can't comment to, what is normal or what might go wrong.
Best you or oli take over at this point.

Re: UCX II Volume & Buffer size

There is not much to take over, as he not answers, I guess the Cubase version is not yet fit (or not updated) for new M-Macs, Cubase itself would probably work fine but the Steinberg manager protection clutter is a dinosaur.

Save to a cloud, link to here, explained more in depth in a blog article that I wrote some time ago for this purpose:

There are two reasons this could happen:

- a WDM playback is active in the background

- Cubase is configured with only 2 I/O channels

In these cases the automatic stop - buffer reset - start is not done.
