Topic: [Solved] Adi2 pro MRC remote nearly fried, 2 years after purchase

Hi everyone,

some buttons on my remote are almost not responding any more, so I am considering buying a new remote. I would like to know if it is possible to use the Pro with a phone app or a universal remote instead?
And is there any rubber protection to slide the MRC remote into? This thing has a real tendency to drop to the ground.

Thanks a lot everyone!!!

Replace the battery.

Replace the Remote smile
Ask RME, they often replace even when out of warranty.

And / or use ADI-2 Remote app if that fits for you.

EDIT: use of chemicals deleted

Acetone is very agressive and will cause damage not only to the plastic housing. Also the rubber contacts can not be cleaned because the remote does not use these (closed metal switches).

I would contact our distributor and ask for a replacement.

- Did you check or reset the right MRC remote code (instructions on the back side) ?
- IIRC, there is something in the manual about universal remotes.

'Almost not respoding' means they work sometimes. So I assume the customer did not change the Remap Keys setting to Off.

Re: [Solved] Adi2 pro MRC remote nearly fried, 2 years after purchase

Hi everyone, thanks for your quick replies and help!
I'll try inserting a new battery just to check, and will report on that.
Is there absolutely no rubber protection for this particular model?

Re: [Solved] Adi2 pro MRC remote nearly fried, 2 years after purchase

My experience about the multi remote :
1/ Battery status : the "SEL" led can still light or blink while the voltage is too low to send an effective IR command.
2/ The LED colour, green or orange, may be difficult to differentiate. I had to re-check the remote code, as indicated on the MRC's back.
Hope this helps,
Regards

Even new batteries I’ve often experienced already drained, specially if their origin is chin-cheap.

I lead you on the wrong path, sorry, as I’ve only seen the typical one-piece rubber-foil-button remotes in the last decade.

This rubber part isn’t a “protection”, it’s just an inexpensive way to have a multitude of switches manufactured at low cost.

The rubber tends to “sweat” an oily substance, that can be removed from the rubber and the circuit board contact areas by acetone, after separating the remote’s parts.

As mentioned by @MC, ADI-2 IR Remote got the much more quality metal switches inside (could have noticed by myself by the click-response!).
Trying to use solvents on these would kill the remote so DON’T do that!

I’ve therefore deleted this part of my posting above.

Hi everyone, yes apparently the battery was already drained. New battery helped things a lot.
