Topic: Clocking Raydat, ADI-2 DAC FS, ADI-2 FS & Ferrofish16?

Helo how sould I clock these RME products :

&

https://www.thomann.de/se/rme_adi_2_fs.htm

&

I also have a Ferrofish16 converter.

Cheers

raydat clock master, rest clock slaves.

RayDAT(cm)---ADAT1------------------> Ferro (cs via ADAT IN)
                  ---ADAT1<------------------
                  ---ADAT2------------------>
                  ---ADAT2<------------------
---ADAT3------------------> ADI-2 FS (cs via ADAT IN)
                  ---ADAT3<------------------
---ADAT4------------------->ADI-2 DAC FS (cs via ADAT IN)

From operational perspective nice, because the clock slaves follow the clock of the master which is set by the DAW/application.

Otherwise if you prefer to have steadyclock FS as clock source you can use ADI-2 FS as clock master.
But then you have to set clock in the application and at the ADI-2 FS.
As the ADI-2 DAC FS has no digital outputs you can't use it as clock source, but doesn't matter, ADI-2 FS has also FS clock.

Thx for the answer.

Does it matter if Raydat or Steadyclock FS is the clock? I am using the old Raydat version and Steadyclock FS is much newer. So maybe Steadyclock FS is best for clock?

Re: Clocking Raydat, ADI-2 DAC FS, ADI-2 FS & Ferrofish16?

Theoretically FS clock should deliver higher accuracy.
On the other hand RayDAT gets the clock signal as clock slave and refreshes it with its own Steadyclock (non-FS based).
At the end of the day you would get only a benefit for the device connected behind the ADI-2 FS.

I would say that it doesn't make that much of a difference and would set prio on handling.
RayDAT as clock master rest follow sample rate as slaves.
