Topic: clocking the digiface usb

Hello,

I clock my entire setup from Big Ben via wordclock. I now want to incorporate a Digiface USB into my setup to replace an FF800. The part of the setup that has to change and which I would propose is the following (which mimics the present setup with the FF800 as closely as possible)

Big Ben -------- adat clock out -----------> adat port 4 in Digiface

Big Ben -------- WC out -------------------> WC in 192 Digital

Digiface adat port 1 <--------------- adat in and out ---------------> 192 Digital first adat port

Digiface adat port 2 <--------------- adat in and out ---------------> 192 Digital second adat port

I should point out that the 192 Digital is part of a Protools HD setup on a MacPro running Protools. The Digiface will be connected to a second MacPro with Logic serving as a supersynth sending sound to the MacPro with Protools via the Digiface and the 192 Digital.

The proposed setup worked flawless with the first line (Digiface and adat clocking) replaced by Big Ben --> WC out --> WC in FF800 and the Digiface replaced by FF800 in lines 3 and 4.

Is the proposed setup above the right replacement?

Thanks for any info, cheers, Bob.

The Big ben into ADAT port 4 has no purpose, or advantage. The DF USB will be clocked from the 192 already.

Thanks for the prompt help!

But in case 192 would not be on (which is not case from OP's description, but it may change one day...), clocking to ADAT4 may be handy/needed.

Thanks for your comment. Had not thought of that, but yes that might happen one day. Good to know there is a solution.

Re: clocking the digiface usb

I know that from my experience/use case. Sometimes I am lazy to switch on computer and switch on just part of gear and use it standalone. Handy for guitar and so....

One more thing concerning Midiface. While it is not designed to run standalone, it forgets its setup when switched off, if it stays on (using e.g. powered USB hub or powered USB socket of computer) it may be used without computer sort of standalone.

All good info, thanks again!
