Topic: Connecting two Audient ASP800s to an RME Digiface USB

I have two Audient ASP800s I’m looking to record drums through. I have a newly acquired Digiface USB that I was looking to use as the interface for these preamps. The ASP800s only have ADAT out so I am unable to get these devices locked simultaneously with the digiface. Is there any way to make these devices work together? Would I need additional equipment? I am very new to this so excuse my ignorance.

See my blog article for an intro to this topic

Instead of the Digiface USB, get the RayDAT (PCIe) with the optional WC card, configure it as clock master and use word clock for synchronization for the Audients.

Also search the forum using normal and extended forum search, there are already a lot of informative threads to this topic.
No need to write this all over and over again. One of the reasons why I started writing a blog article about clock synchronization.

Thank you for the quick response and the informative blog post. I am using a Macbook as my computer so I don't believe the RayDAT would be an option for me. Is there another device you would recommend that I could easily connect to my macbook?

I understand this topic has been discussed ad nauseam on this forum and apologize for the redundant post.

You could use a Sonnet expansion case through thunderbolt.

Will look into that thank you.

Re: Connecting two Audient ASP800s to an RME Digiface USB

Looks like the ASPs don't have a Word Clock output, so you'd need some kind of external clock generator to sync both to (with a T-piece, Audient have a support page explaining this).
I don't really see an alternative, but essentially any (second hand) device that can provide Word Clock should do ..

Re: Connecting two Audient ASP800s to an RME Digiface USB

Good evening Daniel.

Is it not possible to connect this like good old BNC network using a T Adapter at the RayDAT?

Audient                   RayDAT               Audient
                               WC Out

EDIT: just see the optional WC module has 1 WC IN and 2 WC OUT, so this should be possible:

Audient#1
---Termination---WC IN<-------WC OUT---RayDAT---WC OUT----------->WC IN----Termination---Audient#2

Re: Connecting two Audient ASP800s to an RME Digiface USB

Sure, I was looking at a setup that includes the already existing DF USB... A random cheap device that can throw out Word Clock might be cheaper and still allows a more mobile setup with e.g. Digiface and just one converter. And you have the phones output.

That said, this would be better use of the T-piece. It's not a hub, it's a junction...

Yes, thats a valid point, RayDAT is a fully digital card and he wouldn't have anything for the monitoring.

He could add ADI-2 DAC FS or ADI-2 Pro FS R BE for monitoring, but this will cost a few bucks more
plus the Sonnect expansion case ..

Well then he can already think about getting 802 FS or UFX II, but then he can connect the Audients only at single speed.
Or 802 FS (or UFX II) and one audient @single speed, if this would be sufficient from the amount/type of ports.
Then it would be again an USB based version and he wouldnt need a TB expansion case.

Well, your solution will be cheaper, but I see certain limitations, only 2x analog I/O is a little bit less ...
OK, he could add an analog monitoring controller ... to get at least active monitors and phones output ...

Many possibilities ..
