Topic: UFX III sync lock issue

I have a UFX III with a sync lock issue on ADAT 1. The issue cannot be replicated on ADAT 2.

I have connected an SSL OctoPre with the clock set to "48, Internal" and connected it to the UFX III via a single optical cable.

When connected to ADAT 1, the sync light on the front of the UFX III blinks intermittently, even with all of the appropriate settings selected on the Windows 11 driver.

When connected to ADAT 2, the sync light on the front of the UFX III remains solid when all of the appropriate settings selected on the Windows 11 driver.

Re: UFX III sync lock issue

I googled for SSL OctoPre but couldn't find such a product, URL, please.

Can you please provide a screenshot of the MADIface driver settings for both cases?

Sorry, SSL PureDrive Octo

You say you configured the SSL Pure Drive Octo to act as clock master.
Then you have to configure the UFX III as clock slave.

If you connected the TOSLINK cable  to the UFX III
- ADAT1 .. did you set clock source to "Optical 1"
- ADAT2 .. did you set clock source to "Optical 2" in the MADIface driver settings?

Are both ADAT I/O Ports (ADAT1 and ADAT2) set to ADAT protocol in the MADIface driver settings?
Could be the case that protocol recognition of ADAT inputs is not automatic (like with the BBF Pro) and depends on the settings of the ADAT outputs. I am not sure whether clock sync works, if the the protocol is not proper set to ADAT.
So ensure that protocol is set to ADAT for ADAT1 and ADAT2 out in the MADIface driver settings.

Can you please provide a screenshot of the MADIface driver settings in both cases?

To be on the safe side plug the TOSLINK cable on the SSL side to the 1st ADAT output which is labeled with 1..8 and 1..4.

Re: UFX III sync lock issue

To which port is the TOSLINK cable plugged on the SSL side?  The primary one labeled with 1..8 / 1..4 ?
If you did this already, can you swap to other port just to test?

Are you using the latest firmware for the UFX III

Maybe firmware update helps.

Latest driver is this:

Are you using this one?

Yes, I updated both when I received the unit.

I know the firmware was previously updated correctly because I could see "SW Version 22" when I turned the unit on. I'm sure MADIface Series Settings were also installed correctly.

Regardless, there were the results:
ADAT 1 using 1..8 / 1..4 - NO SYNC
ADAT 1 using 1..8 / 5..8 - NO SYNC
ADAT 2 using 1..8 / 1..4 - NO SYNC
ADAT 2 using 1..8 / 5..8 - SYNC

However, I just reinstalled the drivers and the firmware at the same time and restarted my PC and it seems to be working correctly.

ADAT 1 using 1..8 / 1..4 - SYNC
ADAT 1 using 1..8 / 5..8 - SYNC
ADAT 2 using 1..8 / 1..4 - SYNC
ADAT 2 using 1..8 / 5..8 - SYNC

I really have no idea what caused this but I am glad it is fixed.
