Topic: Fireface 400 x Behringer ADA 8000 x Ableton x PC x NOT WORKING YET

Dear Technicians,

Im very thankful, if someone can help me to get the ADA 8000 running with the FF 4000 in Ableton.

The Issue is:

I dont know how to get Sound through the ADA 8000. I dont know how to route in Totalmix. I dont see a signal in Totalmix.

What I already did:

Word Clock: Is connected, FF 400 is the Master, The Cable is connected to the "Word Out" in the FF 400, at the ADA 8000 its connected to "WC IN"-Setting.

Fireface Settings Mask: Optical: ADAT, Clock Source: Internal. (Input Status says: Word: No Lock, ADAT: No Lock)

FF 400 Hardware: ADAT Light is Green and constantly shining, next to the Word In/Outs is a "75" and theres an orange light constantly shining.

Issue: I want to use Inp: 1, 2,3 and Out 1,2,3 of the ADA 8000, and use them in the Daw (Ableton).

Question 1: How do I have to route them in Total Mix and Ableton?

In Ableton I got 18 Mono Inputs "active" in the audio-settings. Furthermore, there are 18 Outs "activated".

Question 2: Which of those Numbers are now connected to which Element in the Total-Mix-Mask?

Thanks a lot for your help.

Best, Felix

First 8 inputs are analog ins, then probably eight ADATs or two channels of SPDIF and then 8 ADATs.

If connection between ADA8000 and FF400 works, when there is audio signal on ADA8000 (if configured correctly) there should be wisible signal in TM on ADAT channels.

Hi Felix

Have you toslink cables ?
you should connect two toslink cables from FF to ADA, FF-out to ADA-in and back from ADA-out to FF-in
No need for wordclock cable, set ADA switch to master 48, set the Fireface Settings clock-mode to external optical input.

For receiving the ADA inputs in Ableton, no need to do anything in Totalmix (other than input gain adjustments).
The input signals from the FF are provided to the DAW directly. Input channels 13 to 20 in Ableton lets you record those Adat signals.

For the ADA outputs you have to route signals in Totalmix.
Click onto hardware output Adat 3/4 (the channel gets highlighted, activated), lift up the fader of the software playback channel with the signal from Ableton, the sound is now routed to the Adat output 3/4 and therefore to the Behringer ADA output 3 and 4.
Perform this on every Adat output you want.

As @Felix said - there is no need for a Word Clock Cable, because ADAT transmits a Clock Signal too.

@Felix - why do you prefer the ADA8200 as the Clock Master?
I woul'd always prefer RMEs internal Clock over the ADA8200 Clock as the Clock Master.
FF400 as the Clock Master and ADA8200 as Slave.

Connecting and Setup is easy:
1.) Connect the FF400 ADAT Out and the ADA8200 ADAT In with a Toslink Cable.
2.) Connect the FF400 ADAT In and  the ADA8200 ADAT Out with the second Toslink Cable.
3.) No Word Clock cable needed
4.) In the FF400 Settings set the Clock Source to "Internal"..
5.) Set the 4-way switch on the back of the the ADA8200 to "ADAT IN".
6.) You are done and everything should work.
