Topic: please help getting AES digital out from Total mix to my speakers

Hi guys, firstly im a noob with digital AES outputs to speakers - hope someone can help, i'm struggling....

I've just bought a UFX 3 fireface. and i've connected it to genelec 8351b speakers via the AES digital out - XLR.

the output of the UFX3 goes into the digital Input of 1 genelec - then another XLR AES cable goes to the other genelec and into its 'digital input'

I've selected the digital switch on the back of the genelecs.

The genelecs are showing in GLM 5 software, and test tones are active - so they are being 'seen'

However, I cannot, work out how to get any sound out of them via the UFX. I can only get a AN/1/2 signal into Total Mix, but cannot see a AES signal coming in -

This means I get audio coming out in my headphone mix, if I raise the slider on PHONES - but If I raise the hardware out put slider on AES, I hear nothing.

I have tried selecting the 'main output' in TM to 'AES' too, incase that might help, but this just removes the AES slider from my mixer view in the hardware out section.

I want all the sound to come out of my mac AND sound I hear in logic pro, mainstage and other apps (when I select UFX 3 as the audio output)

However, of course, I want all the sound to use the digital output AES,

Sorry for the long message, but I've spent hours on this, watched ALL The RME videos and am completely lost. Its the first time i've ever used digital connections so please if you
can give some baby steps to help me get this working, i'd be sooooo grateful.

thank you so much!

You missed to read the friendly manual in terms of routing.

Every HW output has a submix of its own.
1. Ensure you are in submix mode (upper right blue area)
Then configure the routing on a "per output" basis
2. Select the submix/hw output
3. turn fader which are needed for this submix (top row= audio from inputs, middle row = audio from PC)

Just to add.... when doing this, make sure the Submix/hardware out for AES on row 3 is turned down.
