Topic: Turn on my UFX+ first and then the PC or vice versa?

I have another question for my UFX + connected via Thunderbolt. I want to know if there is an order for switching on the devices (in sequence), that is, if I have to switch on the UFX + first and then the PC, or switch on the PC first and then the card. Or is all this indifferent? I currently turn on UFX+ after Windows starts, because otherwise the PC does not recognize it right away (I believe it is a PCIe card problem and my current Windows installation) . I ask because I come from a Fireface 800, where I always turn on the card first and then start the PC.

Normally should not matter and USB as well as thunderbolt is plug & play.
Which means should work either way ..
- if you turn it on before you start computer
- turn it on on demand when computer is started

This is interesting. I've had intermittent issues with Windows recognising my UFX+ if I turn it on before booting into Windows. I'm running over USB3 and have the new ESS chip.

Yesterday, the UFX+ reported a 32k sample rate with a blue light (indicating a USB3 connection) but I couldn't open TotalMix/settings until I restarted the UFX. I always run 44.1k

Do you have AKM or the new ESS version? I'm wondering if there's a bit of occasional driver instability.

Hi Unodos, my UFX+ is now fine connected via Thunderbolt. However with USB3 I never had any problems when I connected it by Sonnet Allegro USB card (Fresco Logic FL1100EX chipset).

How do I know if there is AKM or ESS inside my UFX+?

Provided you have the latest drivers: if you open the MADIface settings and click on 'About', Hardware Revision will be 163 for ESS

Yes, I see "Revision=163"
I hope it is a good thing :)

Re: Turn on my UFX+ first and then the PC or vice versa?

Hi, I'm writing my problem here regarding the topic. If I start my UFX+ first and then start the PC, the interface is not recognized, as if it is not connected. If I do the opposite (I turn on the UFX+ after turning on the PC), everything works fine. Is there a solution for the first scenario? I'm running Windows 11.

Re: Turn on my UFX+ first and then the PC or vice versa?

How is the device connected? Via USB3 or Thunderbolt?
How are your settings at the device? Options -> Hardware -> Interface mode?
What firmware, driver?

To which device is it connected? Windows or Apple?
Which model / mainboard?
Do you know: USB3 port from Intel/AMD chipset or from a 3rd party controller?
Do you see any CRC transport errors with this cable?
Did you try another USB3 cable?
Did you try all USB3 ports?
Direct connection to an USB3 port or via hub?

Re: Turn on my UFX+ first and then the PC or vice versa?

USB3 connected to PC desktop Windows 11, cpu intel i9 14900k;
mainboard Asus ROG Maximus z790 Dark Hero;
Chipset intel z790.
Cable connected directly to the rear panel of the mainboard in a USB 3 (5Gbps) port. No external or internal Hub. I'm using original usb3 cable. No CRC transport errors detected ever.

Never try to change cable. It works perfectly if I turned on pc first and then ufx+.
Never try other usb port.

Re: Turn on my UFX+ first and then the PC or vice versa?

Then you should try all USB3 ports just for the case that one of them works better.

Ok, I'll try and let you know. Thank you

Re: Turn on my UFX+ first and then the PC or vice versa?

hi, i just wanted to say that i solved it by setting "Interface Mode" to "auto". In this way the interface is seen even when the pc turns on after it. Thank you for the support ramses.

Great, tbh .. would have thought that USB3 would be better, good to know.
